They're also finally starting the process of expanding into the neighborhood where my mom lives. She said there was an HOA meeting about it maybe about a month ago. It'll be a while before they actually have service available because of all the necessary construction, but... good to see.

My mom has Spectrum, which Ok, but they could do a lot better if they wanted to. They need to essentially dump their coax network and run fiber everywhere they possibly can.

Having Google as an ISP sounds like a sensible, rational idea, sure.

They're better than literally any other ISP except for municipal fiber

I live in a Kansas City Suburb. We were literally the first city on Earth to have Fiber. And I still can't get it in my area. All of my friends have it even though they are just a few miles from me, but I live in a Fiber desert.

I was gonna go with Spectrum for my house since my only choices are Spectrum and AT&T... Then when I realized that Spectrum ran fiber to the street, but coax to the house, I was immediately turned off and just went with AT&T fiber.

So far it has been a great choice. My only issue with AT&T was their TV service through AT&T TV/DirecTV Stream. And it only became a major issue after the DirecTV Stream rebrand and they made sports streaming stop working. So I just canceled DirecTV Stream and went with YoutubeTV.

I'm just glad Google Fiber is a thing because my AT&T 1 gbps fiber internet is $71 instead of whatever astronomical price AT&T would have charged if Google Fiber didn't exist.

Verizon Fios has been amazing in my experience. Barely any issues, I can download large Steam games in minutes.

Fiber internet service is going to be comparable across different ISPs. However, the reason 1 Gbps internet only costs about $70 is because of Google Fiber.

I've had Google Fiber for years, and it has been great. The few times I've had any issues, the support has been quick to help.

Oh hey. Man, that is rough. I live right outside KC, and am lucky enough that it was available here. I imagine it should expand into your area fast if its back to expanding.

I'd hope but I'm less than optimistic.

Fiber internet seems like it's only useful for the new phenomenon of cloud game streaming, and general video gamey things like ping this and ping that (my friends who do the online gaming thing mention that word often)

I've made do surviving with 3 mbps most of my life lol

I wish we could get that here. Comcast has been very frustrating for us as of late.

Google Fiber believes that everyone deserves quality internet, and were expanding our footprint in all our cities, including the newest!

This is bs. They rejected me because my area was not worth bothering since we don't have 20+ apartments...

I'm pissed at Google Fiber...I've had it at every address I've lived at in Austin until I bought my house last year. Fiber in the neighborhood was actually a priority for me in choosing a house, looked up the address before making an offer, everything looked good. Opened a ticket to have the service connected after we moved in and it was never installed. 6 months of phone calls asking for an explanation or an escalation and they were never able to explain what was going on. They finally just closed my ticket with no information.

I also got an email on Monday asking me to confirm my email and physical address but when I look up my address now it says I'm not in a service area. Pissed me off.

Same. If they come around here I'd be pleased. We get taken advantage of by our ISP.
