brand new printer, but never used (bought 4 years ago). official HP software can't find the printer, even though windows can find it just fine. It's only printing in color, not black, and this app would let me run the cleaning and aligning diagnostics to potentially fix the problem.

im about 5 minutes from just Office Spacing this printer and buying a new one.

that's what I was using. I got the official software from HP and it can't find the fucking HP printer that is literally plugged in via usb cable.

restarted computer.
changed usb port.

CAN print in color, but not in black. Need to print PDFs, and can't change the color of them as far as I know. Only option is to screenshot, adjust in photoshop until it's pure magenta or something, then print but jfc i dont wanna do that.

i managed to photoshop my pdf into blue and magenta and it's as horrible as i thought it would be.

id buy another black cartridge if i thought that would fix the problem, but most likely it's the printing head not the cartridge.

Setting up network printers is rather fun. Plug it in, turn it on, set static IP, get it added to a server and make the change to group policy and everyone has access to it. Now that so many people work from home, walking people through setting up a printer at home is torture.

I just got a new HP plotter last week, can print 44 inches wide on 100-ft rolls of paper. Worked beautifully all last week. Came in Monday morning to an error message "hurr hurr this printhead needs to be replaced" bitch it's one of the ones that came with the printer!

At my old job, I had a lot of fun replacing toner and refilling the paper. Just a low stress break from normal work.

But yeah, initial setup of network settings and drivers, bleh.

I tried spraying the inside of the printer with canned air. Didn't work

Gotta love the official FAQs too. They be like:

Step 1: Reformat your HDD and reinstall.
Step 2: Try a different USB port.
Step 3: Try a different USB cord.
Step 4: Replace low ink cartridges.
Step 5: Download our software.

This is one of the reasons I'm trying to avoid buying a printer. If I absolutely need to print something, I'll just go into the office and do it there.

I'm probably going to get a laser printer next year, though.

I haven't had a need for one much either, but now I want to print a bunch of warhammer stats but the website is russian and I don't want to try to access it from work. i wouldn't have hesitated last year but obviously it's different now. more than anything I want to print 300 or so pages of rules and stats and i don't wanna do that from the office either!

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. The only things I've had to print recently are forms that I'm filling out for change of address forms, homestead exemption, or other documents that I need to send off to one place or another.

Yep. I have a VIP user here who has a wifi printer, and like once a month, he calls me because he's not able to print to it. He seems to think that I have psychic powers and can know what exactly what prompts to press on the printer when I barely even know what model it is (it's his own personal printer, not one that we use onsite).

If this wasn't a VIP user, we'd just tell him that he's SOL, because we're not responsible with setting up user's personal printers at home.
