B) $16 an hour is $2560 a month. If you can't pay for rent, utilities, food and necessities (read: not alcohol, not drugs, not fast food, not new phones, not new TVs, not new video game consoles, not frivolous expenses) then you are the one with the problem, not your paycheck. Even if we figure rent at $1500 (it's not even close to this much anywhere outside of cities) and utilities at $300, that still leaves you with $760 for everything else, which is more than enough to live on with extra.

You forgot taxes out of those wages.
And health insurance.
And a vehicle.
And insurance for that.
These things alone will consume (and likely exceed) that $760 you say is left over in this pipe-dream of a budget. And this doesn't even cover incidentals like emergencies or circumstances unique to the individual.

I think that the point they're trying to make is that people look at that and see "oh, how great that people are helping" instead of seeing the broken system that put her in that position in the first place.

both is good, but these stories are often presented with a hard effort to erase the one that'd be inconvenient to shareholders of the company making ad revenue off the story

so you can see where on an individual level there's a perceived need to focus more on the part that isn't already focused on

Obvious that some people here didn't read the story. Some excerpts:

I live with two roommates and still struggle paying the rent. Every month, it's something with one of them; they can't pay their share of rent, electric, water, internet, etc.

My phone is 4 years old, completely paid off.

I don't blow stupid amounts of money on clothes, or weed, or booze like my roommates do. Can't even tell you the last time I had actual takeout, or even shitty Mcdonald's food. I try to be as frugal as possible and I'm still struggling.

Everyone says to get a better paying job or move to a low cost of living area but I can't do that with the money I don't have.

And again, people are not accounting for taxes (which can eat up almost half your earnings right off the top), health insurance (bound to be sh!tty from a job only paying 16.75/hr), whether she has a child or/ and a vehicle, and other bills like phone, credit cards and food shopping.

Antiwork is fake and she is a grifter
