NGL, the game is kind of awesome. It looks like it's going to be a heavily monetized nightmare of a game, but the gameplay itself is rock solid and there's decent variety in movesets. Matchmaking is basically instant and I haven't had a laggy match yet.

Sounds great. I'm honestly fine with F2P monetization as long as the game is actually F2P. This greedy trend where companies are throwing all kinds of microtransactions and constant DLC to full-priced games is just gross.

Way better, but I've only played 1v1 online. A bunch of characters have moves that specifically involve supporting your teammate so I don't know what the full 2v2 experiences like.

It's very floaty, and characters tend to stay fixed in the air while their attack animation goes off. Smash isn't afraid to let characters drop like a sack of bricks which is maybe where the disconnect is.

Definitely do wish the sound design had a bit more crunch to it though.

Yeah the collision in this game doesn't have the "crunch" that Smash Ultimate has. So it makes it more satisfying to kill a person in Smash than it is in this game. It's still in its Alpha state and I hope it will get addressed. The music is also super generic and there are glitches of Taz being invisible or his outlines are only showing, so I'm guessing he's the newest character they added to the roster. Probably my last criticism is that sometimes it's hard to follow. Granted Smash sometimes has that problem as well, but for some reason I'm recognizing it more with this game.

Otherwise, this game fucking rocks. I love the fact that characters will banter in the middle of the match. The biggest thing is the netcode, I find matches so quickly and I only had 1 match that had questionable rollback in it. The progression system doesn't even seem that bad either. I was kind of scared with the power ups because it really brings back SFxT gems system, but none of it is really game breaking. Also I like that moves have utility when it's a 2v2 and that there's a class system so it makes building teams important. The graphics are colorful and the fight animations is honestly really solid. I've only played 3 characters so far, Shaggy, Superman, and Arya. Superman and Arya are honestly very fun to play as, Arya being the standout for me. Was kind of disappointed that Shaggy is just a boring shoto, even with the "rage" gimmick he has.

I just hope the monetization in this game doesn't go too crazy in the predatory route.

I'm liking it a lot so far, but haven't dipped very far in. It's leagues better than Nick ASB though, on the virtue of stronger animations and voice acting alone.

My friend signed up for the Alpha and gave me one of his invites, so I tried it out today.

The moves feel kinda soft and sluggish, which might be in part because of the sound design, as people have said. That makes it kinda hard to get a feel for a moveset. But the moves themselves also seem more complex than the average Smash Bros moveset. A lot of them have special effects on team mates which is really neat. Like tether moves can be used to save your teammates when they're knocked off the stage or when they jump off to edge guard. And apparently Shaggy's sandwich throw attack can heal teammates.

There's a lot to learn, which I imagine could make matches really fun and interesting. Probably not gonna get the full game though. I'm not really attached to any of the characters and I've kinda lost interest in even the real Smash Bros since Ultimate.

I'm sorry, but 10,000 of ANYTHING on a PS2 would absolutely destroy your framerate. It'd be like playing chess through the mail. ~johnboy1

This is probably intentional because fast paced games with rollback netcode have a lot of jank.

Oh lol. Goes to show how much I've been paying attention. Well maybe if they add in some characters that I care about. And make an interface that fits on my TV. I can't see how much gold I have cuz that part of the menu is off the side of the screen and no setting on my ps4 or TV fixes it lol.

I haven't played, but it looks like a lot of fun. A lot of interesting mechanics like dodge meters (can no longer spam rolls/spot dodges thank god), buffs, debuffs, and cool down meters on a lot of moves. I have heard at least in the early stages that the game is just a button mash fest though

Button mash wouldn't be the right term imo, but it does promote more aggressive rushdown type of gameplay style because of the lack of throws or shields/blocking/parry. Some characters can command throw like Superman for instance, but otherwise you want to be the first person to hit the guy. Basically think of it as the KoF version of Smash because there's not a whole lot of defensive options. Also the game is very floaty, it promotes a lot of aerial combat because of how free roaming it allows you to do in the air.

But yea I'm glad they toned down the dodging, but it's going to get some getting used to with the cool down meters on some of the special moves.

The game desperately needs a guilty gear style burst meter, though, so people have a (roughly) once-per-match way to break out of combos.
