This year I'm going to snipe

Basically, under the current (better system), let's say I want to save something that's literally just pointless meme nonsense. Let's use Queen Brahne for an example. With two saves, I would need to save her myself, and waste my second save trading for her because no one else would reliably vote for Queen Brahne. Meanwhile, someone else could save two individual characters in the hopes of relying on someone else to get that second save (with trading as an option in the final hour). Plus, by splitting votes, you're essentially saying to other voters that you've done your part, and if they also like the character, they should use their votes on said character too.

Under the 1/1 rules, the trader is still getting the same effectiveness to their votes, but the splitter suddenly has the effectiveness of their votes cut in half. Plus, the shittiest part of FoG is that you have the stand-off of "I like this character, but I don't want to have to waste my save on them when I know other people like them too and could save them". Under 2/2, you've done your part, and if your character still isn't getting the second backer, then at least you know not to expect help later on when you're forced to trade.

The only God I serve is chaos. If someone isn't a saver's first or second priority, then they can enjoy the year off.

Any character I love that gets booted is fine by me. If I wanted them safe I should have saved them myself.

If you like chaos, then the contest is inherently chaotic and you're going to get what you want regardless. You still get to have fun by the very nature of the contest format.

If you don't care as much for chaos (especially in the hard boot rounds), then removing what little order there is to the early rounds just makes it extremely unfun.

People get to juggle too many priorities already tbh. This is more in line with the rest of the contest and makes it more zany and fun. I for one would welcome some characters being eliminated shockingly. Honestly I feel like if you are an active saver and you think the contest is unfun because your third or lower priority got booted, that might be a you problem.

Who knows maybe one of my favorites will get booted because of this, but that already happens sometimes anyway as generally I love a good chunk of final fantasy characters so...!

See, I strongly disagree with this. As established when I ran that "Save Inviso's Favorite Final Fantasy Characters" contest, my legitimate favorites and top tier characters tended to be the stuff no one but me cared about, and the endgame was basically the lower tier stuff that I enjoy enough, but doesn't really spark a whole lot of favoritism. So while you might be fine with chaos and your favorites getting booted if that's destined to happen...but historically, the things you hold in high regard are not the ones likely to be punished by the change in format the way my favorites are.

You've even commented in the past (either for Year of FFXIII, or the subsequent Lightning run) how I have to show dedication to get any sort of momentum for a singular force. I pretty much have to choose a single legitimate favorite and push them alone, because I'm inevitably going to end up down to scraps really fast. I'm not someone who gets to the endgame with a legion of favorites I can bounce around between when I lose something I care about. So having that chaos and the mass elimination of my favorites even EARLIER is not fun for me.

Which format is more likely to get everyone in VII into the top 30?

I mean IN FAIRNESS two of my big projects are Red Mage (Booted and not re-nominated) and Steiner (Hard Booted two years ago)

I don't tend to mention it as much because I am a bad man who has scarred all of you with past antics so I just let it slide off my back as a more 'darn' situation than commenting overly much since I have made my own cup run over during these long years.

Now that I am not in any sort of odd DEADLY ALLIANCE or cult or whatever, my 'crew' is basically 'Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.'

If the answer is 'yes' then you will probably like my saves and help, if no then you won't.

I am not sure if all of my precious FFXIV characters make it through boots, but I hope so as I love them all.

and I love like...legitimately 20 more in this field I just never get the chance to talk about them. Kefka! I almost never come close to saving Kefka but I fucking love Kefka.

I don't know I guess we all love so many characters eventually they all pass on from the contest until the end eventually. Most of us regular savers have had fun in some way or another once or twice for miracle runs, most of us have had a favorite hard booted too lol. So it is the nature of things.

Honestly I see both arguments, but lefty has said what a nightmare it is to keep track of 2/2 saves so I won't complain if he dumps them (or alters the rules to make it easier to track, like making sure you save both in the same post or something).

Honestly, I think we're going to stick with 2/2 for now, mostly because I feel a bit uncomfortable making a change like this without giving ample time for people to think about it and chime in.

But do note that this is merely being tabled for now, not thrown out completely.

(And yes, there will be a round today. I haven't forgotten yet!)
