It's said that 90% of people in America feel there needs to be stricter gun control laws. Whether that means extensive background checks, wait periods, bullet sales limitations, a national gun registry, or something else, basically everyone is in agreement there needs to be some system in place to insure the only people owning guns are people that are responsible enough to own guns.

Problem is, any legislation proposed is being proposed by "the wrong side" and even though it's something they agree with, many Republicans won't vote for the person looking to pass the laws..

People are literally voting AGAINST their best interests and and AGAINST people proposing legislation they actually agree with just because the people proposing them are on the "other side".

I always hear people talking about being a "law abiding gun owner".

But we all know the laws are absolute shit. People need to start worrying about being a responsible gun owner.

Short of preventing firearm sales entirely, what law would've prevented this guy from getting the guns he did?

Funny thing is, the people I know that consider themselves (and from what I've witnessed, are) responsible gun owners are the ones the most vocal about there being stricter gun laws.

Mainly because the lax gun laws in this country give people that are responsibly owning their guns (with safes, separate safes for ammo, etc.) a bad name.

I haven't read up on this person's background enough to comment on this particular example. But a waiting period between purchase attempt and sale could/would prevent some guns from falling into the wrong hands if you combine it with extensive background checks.

And, yes, I understand that is someone wants to do damage that badly, they will figure out a way to do it. That doesn't mean we should make it as easy as
possible.

For example, how about we stop voting for people that do shit like this:

Texas has made it easier to purchase guns in recent months despite the state's playing host to a series of mass shootings in recent memory, including the killing of a combined 30 people in El Paso and Odessa in 2019.

A new state law that came into force on September 1 allowed anyone aged over 21 to carry a handgun in most places without a permit or training. The bill was put forward by Texas Republicans.

Before the change, Texans had to pass a background check, take a safety course, and take a competency test to get a license.

At the time, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the permitless carry law was the "biggest and best" gun law of 2021 that "instilled freedom" in Texas.

This fucking ghoul is positively giddy that we have another shooting (which I was told we shouldn't politicize) since the Buffalo one is too hard for them to spin against the left.

But this Uvalde fuck is dead and brown and didn't leave a manifesto, so they can turn him into whatever boogeyman they need.

I went to middle school and high school from 2002-2009 in an urban city. In order to get to class. I had to swipe my ID card. It got checked to make sure I was the same person as the ID. Then had to put my bookbag, belt, keys through a conveyor belts which was checked. I walked through a metal detector. If you rung the alarm you got taken to another area where a security guard would use a metal detector wand to check you and got patted down. If every thing went well you were then allowed to go to class.

Also if I wanted to cut class the earliest I could do it without getting in trouble was 1pm. Every exit had security guards by them and 1pm was the earliest last scheduled class. If you tried leaving earlier than that you had to show your schedule to a security guard and if you were lying/cutting class you got suspended. I thought this was normal and a part of the post 9/11 security measures being done. Didnt find out until I went to college the most security many have to deal with was ID swipes and even then they didnt check to make sure you were the one in the ID trying to enter the building.

I waited to know the whole story before I posted. All the anti-cop topics where it turns out the cop wasn't actually wrong taught me to wait and get all the facts first.

Theres anonymous reports going around the ICE presence was there offduty, like just got off shift with other border patrol agents.

One agent assessed the situation on scene asap, a border patrol agent charged in, no backup, and shot the gunman. The border patrol agent was shot and injured.

This is all unofficial. Not sure what happened so investigate the information out there on your own too.

Ah heres a report
https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/texas-school-shooting-border-patrol-agent-killed-gunman
A Border Patrol agent who was working near Robb Elementary School rushed into the school when shooting began and killed the gunman without waiting for backup, a law enforcement source told the Associated Press.
The agent was reportedly wounded but was able to walk out of the school, the AP reported Wednesday...

Shesh... I grew up in a different time. We were free to do whatever we wanted when I was in school and never worried that someone was going to shoot up a school, even after Columbine. It felt like a one off thing.

Well I mean, he did drive a truck to the scene of the shooting. That grandfather looks like he didn't pay much attention to his grandson and didn't know what he was capable of doing.

Did they at least lock the doors? At the high school I went to you had from 8-10am. After that the door got closed and there was only one other entrance which you had to show ID and scanned through. You had to sign in and give a reason/excuse why you were so late.

One of the security guards when I went said this had been the procedure at the school since 1995. So years before Columbine.
