I guess they should be either niche like SMT or dead like Digimon and Yokai watch I mean, Game Freak keeps removing popular features (including the actual Pokemon themselves) while also dumbing down the actual games because they think that they'll lose kids if the games are even slightly difficult (this isn't hyperbole; Masuda himself cited kids with smartphones as to why they're lowering the difficult of the games). I mean, the older games weren't exactly hard either, but when they feel in Sword/Shield that you need an NPC to guide you to a hotel that's only like three buildings away from the one you were in, despite another NPC already telling you where it is right beforehand, you know just how they feel about their audience. Maybe "getting with the times" was the wrong phrase to use. More like...
