Like, you gotta think about how wide of a swath the term "mental illness" is. At what point do you say "oh yeah, you're mentally ill, you can't have a gun"? Who gets to decide this? People think being LGBT+ is a mental illness. People think any sort of "social degeneracy" is a mental illness.

Some statistics say that 25% of the United States population has a mental illness. Are we just going to say "haha, fuck you person with some minor mental illness, you can't defend yourself!"?

2/3s of gun deaths are suicides.

I don't necessarily think suicide is wrong. I just think there needs to be legal channels to go through Counseling and a wait period.

Thats why there should be thorough psych evaluations to purchase a fire arm and they should be required to retest yearly to maintain their ownership rights.
