For a PC port of a console game, this game is _well_ optimised. I'm running max resolution at max graphic settings, and my GPU is only seeing 67% utilisation, with my CPU maybe running 40% load. I have a R7 5800x and RTX 3070 Ti, but even still, I've yet to see a game that wasn't several generations old run max settings and cap out my refresh rate on my monitor (144hz).

Played through some more missions with the top gun f18. Oh man this game is is sweet. I still need to do a run where I hunt down all the aces and grab their skins. Maybe i'll do that next

This topic made me get the game back out and start through the campaign again. I've yet to do the DLC missions too.

From what I remember at least 2 of the DLC missions are bangers

Damn this game is a ton of fun but I can't break a B on these missions. Just did the Mother Goose mission.

As you unlock better planes and more parts you'll be able to rank higher. Also being familiar with the missions helps a ton. Just enjoy your first playthrough and don't get too sweaty chasing ranks

There's a few skins you'll unlock by S ranking all missions on Normal and Hard, other than that just S rank titles that are only visible in multiplayer

I was looking up some research of the older titles and found out that the Japanese version of Ace Combat 3 had 50+ missions, anime cutscenes, and even diverging mission paths and different endings depending on your choices.

Meanwhile, the US versions cut out 1/3 of the missions and kept it as a linear path, and also stripped out all the anime cutscenes. Why the fuck did they do that? Was America really that scared of anime and gray morals in war? >_>

She's actually perfectly fine and there's no explanation for how an explosion powerful enough to rip off her helmet didn't snap her neck

Yeah, I just beat the game and saw that now. The story is still goofy tho.

But this was AWESOME! I'm gonna try the DLC missions now and then go back and tackle hard mode with expert controls. I'm definitely a fan of this series now.

As for waifu rankings:

Huxian > Avril > McOnie > Princess > Brownie > rest

Which control scheme is better? Standard or Expert? Standard is obviously more comfortable, but Expert feels like I can do way more once I get used to it

Personally standard feels awkward and unnatrual where as "expert" is what you would expect from a flight game. You can change them on the fly iirc so try out both and see what you like better, but you'll be limited in what you can do with standard mode.

There is a lot of ground missions, just a heads up. You can take out a lot of ground targets with your normal missiles if you want instead of using bombs

Half of them have already been ground missions so far so I just assumed it would be like that til the end lol been using missiles mostly, my current plane's ground weapon is laser and it's just okay.

Mission 10 with all the SAMs was kinda just boring. I felt like I was waiting around cuz I was blowing things up too fast. Would have been better if they doubled the planes and halved the SAMs on that one. Would have been way more bad ass.

Though might be if you switch from 3rd to 1st person

You can set the controls to always stay level like Star Fox or Rogue Squadron, but you make some wacky turns, you'll go inverted until you stop and then you'll level out
