Someone asked this about the actor who plays the flash , and everyone was talking about how horrible they were and not the question. And this is something I wanted to know as well. Since Elliot Page said they were that as well. (sorry if that is the wrong pronoun)

I'm rather confused by this as well. If someone would actually enlighten me, I could be cautious around trans people who identify as such in the future.

I...huh....
I know a lot of transgender AND non-binary people IRL but trying to put the two together doesn't really work, in my head anyway. No offense intended, it really is a hard one to grasp :/

Or you can stop with the veiled outrage and just answer the question?

If you define "transgender" as any gender identity that doesn't match one's biological sex (EDIT: to be clear, I mean this as opposed to "specifically the binary opposite of one's biological sex"), then non-binary is generally inherently transgender as almost no one has a non-binary biological sex. (Yes, intersex people exist. That's why I said "almost no one".) It's not contradictiory or nonsensical to use both together; just redundant.

First off, transsexual does not fly unless specifically requested by an individual, and Ezra has not done that. It's an outdated term at best, actively offensive at worst.

I'm having trouble finding primary sources for this (it's a goddamn nightmare finding transgender or non-binary information, transgender AND non-binary is ludicrous), so the best I can offer is conjecture from my education on the subject and I make no guarantees.

At least for Elliot, he is transgender, but as gender is a spectrum, "not a woman" does not automatically mean man.

He prefers male pronouns, but a non-binary system by definition is going to include more than two options.

Assuming you're correct in him being non-binary, I don't know offhand.

My ex considers themselves trans and non-binary. They don't fall into the male or female category, but is leaning more towards the masculine side, so they prefer the pronouns they/them/he/him. He also wants top surgery but not bottom surgery. So that is technically still transitioning, just not a full-on female-to-male transition since he does not feel completely like either of those (but since he leans more towards masculine than feminine, he's fine with being called he/him).

I think this is correct, yes. Especially since not every trans person wants or gets surgery.

What's the point of not identifying with your sex, when at the end of the day, it's still your sex? What are you identifying as instead, and what favor would that do for you?

Some people feel like their biological sex (and the roles / stereotypes associated with it) don't really fit who they are, so they identify differently. Others (like myself) are quite happy to just act / look the way they want without identifying differently on account of it.

Most importantly, you lose nothing by respecting it, whether or not you agree with and/or understand it. ;)

I'm still not seeing why they can't just keep their sex, and choose/change all that other stuff. Especially if you're still the same sex at the end of the day.

What if they want to go into private spaces exclusively for one sex? Bathrooms, changing rooms, massage parlors, salons to get a wax job, etc. How do I respect the rights of unwilling participants?

Well, from how I understand it (and I'll be the first to admit I don't fully get it myself) - they don't want to be that sex. And so they present themself, and identify, differently. Sure, the underlying biology might not be possible to change - but, outside of sexual / romantic partners, it's not like you're going to know what someone's biology is anyway. So again - it comes back to, you don't have to get it, you can still respect it anyway.

How many of these are exclusively for one sex and actually have a good reason to be so and can't exist in a single-user form where no matter what the sex is, only one sex is using it at a time because only one person is using it at a time?

Does everyone define trans and nb this way? Not knocking you; trying to learn because all of this stuff is still very new to me.

i dont think so, i know some other nb people that dont particularly consider themselves transgender
personally i dont understand it, but if thats how they label themselves its fine. for me its like, i say im nonbinary as a general term, but specifically i consider myself agender. i dont align with the gender i was assigned at birth, thus i am transgender, and i dont align with any particular gender, thus i am nonbinary(or for specifically me, agender)

I think a lot of people are so used to disengenious aggressive bigots that they have lost the ability to respond to open questions

People trying to understand something are absolutely who need to respond to. Acting with hostality doesn't help anyone.

Same as when people get furious because someone they just met used the wrong pronoun. They literally just met you, communicate with them. Let them know.

Sure if they keep doing it then they're an asshole but you can't expect everyone else to know everything that you know.

It's a lot more conflicting than that. As far as a lot of trans people are concerned, they ARE the sex they identify as, top to bottom, inside and out.

They don't want you to "nod and play along". They want you to agree with them what being a man or a woman means to them, readjust yourself and everything else to them, and even teach children their ideology and follow their example.

How many of these are exclusively for one sex and actually have a good reason to be so and can't exist in a single-user form where no matter what the sex is, only one sex is using it at a time because only one person is using it at a time?

Unless you're actively being a dick to them about it, or actually getting into an in-depth serious discussion about it with them, they literally are not going to know whether you agree with them or not, let alone what you teach anyone else. Much like how you may not even know they're trans in many cases.

And to the contrary, I'm engaging because I used to have views much like he does now, and people just calling me names or flipping out at me is not what convinced me I was wrong about it.
