Just realized how fucked up the elements being numbered is for me because it messes with my synesthesia. 18 is supposed to be GREEN you fuck, not purple! At least the song is actually kinda argon coloured for me; synth toms and guitar harmonics and acoustic bass have a tendency to sometimes be purple if manifested right (tho theyre more likely to be brown or like colorful but desaturated oil), but in a gaseous way which..i mean thats argon for you! But in this song, they are manifested as oily purple and that feels about right

Slow edm vs FAST edm. I love 90s synths... i am glad that i like rap these days so that that part can be a plus instead of a minus for me in 2022

Angela kinda has those Yoko Shimomura vibes going for it upon relistening to it, so I definitely like it more now. Heretic Frypan has got something going on, I can't tell if it's either Undertale mixing with older Bomberman or Mother 3 mixing with Bomberman instead. Whatever the case, the synths here are strong, and that's definitely getting my interest more in this matchup.

I always appreciate the Latin spectrum of sound, especially whenever it comes in the form of a Spanish gutiar and trumpet working together. But this time, Kanno has it pretty down beat. The Chase is probably my favorite piece of VGM that she's ever made (so far), just over 5 minutes of pure chill magic that my senses love each time it plays.

I don't care too much for the beginning of Argon Refinery for some reason, and it definitely takes a while to really get the song going. Once it does though, I can see why people like it so much. For Shudder, one synth in particular just doesn't feel like my taste but the rest make up for it, and the rapping part in the middle is a pretty nice touch.

MATCH 1

Angela has the same pros and cons for me that The Blue Reverberation had. It has the nice sounding, dramatic violin melodies, but it doesn't feel like it goes where I want it to. I think this has a bit more oomph than The Blue Reverberation, but still not as much as I'd hope.

I honestly didn't remember Heretic Frypan at all when I saw it in the thread, nor do I remember listening to it (though I 100% did) when going through the bracket. But now that I'm listening to it today, it's actually pretty decent! It sort of reminds me of Undertale a bit. Especially 1:08-1:22, which I think is my favorite part of the song. Reminds me of Another Medium. This match is closer than I remember it being, but I'm still feeling Angela here.

MATCH 2

The Chase is a pretty neat song! I definitely like it more than Southern Twilight. I don't know where I'd stand on Pat Metheny Group given that I haven't really listened to anything from them (I think I may have listened to Last Train Home once), but going off of this song, it seems like I'd enjoy some songs from them, but ultimately, there's a long list of 70's and 80's bands like rock bands that I'd prefer to listen to. That is to say, The Chase is a song I'd happily take over more mediocre songs but would have losing to a fair amount of songs that are more my style.

Speaking of "more mediocre songs." Yeah, I just don't really find anything appealing about Desierto Caliente. It's not bad, but nothing really stands out about it.

Argon Refinery is very cool! I really like house music, so I really enjoy that this song brings those vibes. Just really catchy overall with that guitar. Despite being almost 9 minutes long, the time really goes by fast when listening to this because it never feels dull. I could've sworn that I remember seeing this song as a repeat entrant that made it to round 4 once, but apparently this is its first time in the contest. After doing some thinking, I think I might have been thinking of Dreams of Cobalt? I don't even feel like my brain actually made that connection because of the periodic table elements, but that's the only logical explanation I have for the mix-up lol.

Shudder has grown on me some over time. It has this retro, yet futuristic, sound that I can get behind. I like a few other Einhander songs more though. Madness from last year was really cool. In any case, Argon Refinery's the clear winner here over Shudder for me.

Library of Ruina - Angela 6 This song with its violins wasn't bad by any means but it didn't really pique my interest beyond, oh that's kinda cool. The dubstep like electronic backing helped.

Eastward - Heretic Frypan 7 Eastward is kinda a fun soundtrack. I vibe with the general soundfont, but very few songs really resonate with me. This one had a good midsection with some push and tenacity. It felt like a futuristic city tune

Uncharted Waters: New Horizons - THE CHASE ~Chase~ (Special Edition) 5 I like the woodwind instruments that give this a hopeful wild west like feeling. The improved drums and jazzy sound to it is vibrant and electric, but it's not really my style.

Guacamelee! - Desierto Caliente 3.5 The repeating trumpets and mexican like vocals are really annoying for me sorry. The general soundfont this song (and I assume the rest of guacamelee) is pretty unique though, we need more mexican video game music. The clapping that blends into the drum beats was probably my favorite.

shatter - Argon Refinery 5 I don't know why this ost has a higher dislike ratio than usual VGM. Do people really hate this music or is it some other phenomenon I'm not seeing. The songs I've heard from here have been generally ok.I don't particularily like this track though: the longness, the drawn out legato slow sections and the somewhat obnoxious soundfont, and the overly stagnant, repetitive melody. But honestly it's not too bad. It has a fun funky futuristic vibe that catches you right at the start. And for some, the obnoxiousness can be interpreted as bold and strong sounds. Also the last part (starting 6:20 ish) reminds me of some pop song i've heard before.

Einhnder - Shudder 6.5 Banger, this is in my favorites. I think it's mostly due to the killer rap, it really reminds me of something I'd hear in jet set radio, specifically miller ball breakers. The rest of the track has this 80s Japanese shmup energy that's pretty cool too.
