Majorities of Americans say they disagree with the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Confidence in the Supreme Court is on the decline.

Just 39% said they have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in the Supreme Court; 58% said they have not very much or no confidence at all in the institution. That's an all time low.

Which is why they have just now lost faith in them.

People are more likely to vote now particularly Democrats.

This issue presents volatility into the 2022 midterms, because 78% of Democrats say the court's decision makes them more likely to vote this fall, 24 points higher than Republicans.

The public doesn't get to vote on who gets into the Supreme Court. Those spots are picked by the president with the public having 0 say into it.

The New York v Bruen decision was pretty based. It made no sense for an individual that, despite passing all other background checks, still had to convince the state on why they wanted to conceal carry.

However their ruling on abortions was a horrible, horrible call.

The entire point of the supreme court is to have a branch of the government power structure immune to public sway. If they were voted in they would just do things to appease the most vocal voters rather than act as judges. The problem is, this entire structure breaks down when the judges are associated with political parties anyways and openly show bias. The best start to fixing the supreme court is eliminating this as much as possible.

No we fucking didn't. The people who appointed a good chunk of the justices on the Supreme Court lost the fucking popular vote. W Bush appointed Roberts and Alito. Trump appointed Gorsuch, that shitstain Kavanaugh, and Barrett. The American people did not elect the men who appointed those justices, a shitty outdated governing system let them slide in. We can lay this mess directly at the feet of the GOP with a clean conscience

Obviously not everyone voted for the republicans, but enough did to make this decision possible. It was on the ballot in 2016. I don't blame democrat voters for losing faith in the supreme court, but "american public"? I roll my eyes in that direction

I remember seeing a rather scary analysis that due to gerrymandering (approved by the SC) less that 25% of US house seats are competitive, and states that allow voter initiated ballots are still subject to being overturned by state legislatures (approved by the SC).

I live in CT. The only races in which my vote may conceivably count are local ones: the Dems are overwhelming likely to win my Congressional district, both Senate seats, and the presidential. So me "voting harder" accomplishes very little on the national level and isn't going to protect me from hypothetical seemingly likely national bans on abortion and transition care. By the way, I'm agreeing with you. Just illustrating the point.

Now, voting isn't entirely useless, but doing nothing more than voting and maybe donating some money to campaigns is a bit like making brushing your teeth the end-all be-all of oral hygiene. Maybe not even that. Doing just that is basically accepting the status quo. I was guilty of that in the past.

Real talk: we need to just throw our Constitution in the trash and try again, at this point. There aren't really Constitutional remedies available that are anything more than stop-gaps against minoritarian rule.

Reminder that Bitch McConnell more than doubled the previous record of time between nomination and confirmation of Merrick Garland just so he could slide Gorsuch in the instant Trump took office. Theres no indication that he wouldnt have tried to do the same if Clinton had won.

Oh and also, the reasoning he used: it was an election year. Meanwhile, when RBG died two months before the election (asking, on her deathbed, that they not replace her until the election was over), it was all hurry, hurry, hurry, throw Barrett in there.

The point being that Republicans wouldve done anything to get those seats and said anything to justify it and youre just playing into their hands by parroting their excuses.
