Not only does the knight gets away with sexually assaulting a young girl, but he's rewarded a beautiful wife at the end because -- oh no -- his "punishment" is that he gave the witch/his wife, a woman lord forbid, all the power in their marriage.

It's 1 in the morning and I want you to know that that story sucks.

I just learned of the story of Gloria Mathew and Linus Audu.
Incredibly tragic and heartbreaking.

There's a youtuber that speaks of the story in a video but i don't want to link it cause he analyzes and explains some pretty fucked up shit on the internet.

Truly it does, one person should never have all the power in a relationship.

I don't know. I'm recalling the first time I read it in school long ago. I remember as a kid I was like, "Wow, this is awful."

I remember reading another version not too long ago where the witch is playing mind tricks on him to make him think she's young and beautiful. That's something I guess. Story still sucked.

Been a while since I read the Canterbury Tales. Unfortunately I hate it because I always had to read it in Old English

Star Wars in general (mostly) sucks. But not as bad as the Wife of Bath's tale.

Sounds pretty lightweight compared to a bunch of mythology stories.

Same!

I honestly came into the topic expecting the writing to be bad or calling it full of plotholes. But if that's the worst content it has, that's... really nothing at all compared to some of the stuff you'll see in fantasy and dark fantasy literature in general, or just mythology :x

Pardoner's tale is indeed a banger, his prologue especially is great. There are a few other standouts too. Can't quite remember off the top of my head but I think the miller and knights were two of the good ones.

Not trying to be a dick but its written in Middle English. Old English is almost a different language you probably wouldn't be able to read it without studying it first.

My 12th Grade English teacher showed us an animated version of that story. Yeah, it was fucked up.

I remember at the end when the knight and the witch were making love, and the witch wasn't even a "hot witch"; she was an ugly old hag.

Not "bad" as in, "Damn, that's fucked up!". I mean "bad" as in, "Damn, this is shitty writing."

One of many reasons to love TNK is that Chaucer would have 100% loved his portrayal, after he got over the whole "movies" thing
