Military is trying pretty hard to increase recruiting numbers lately.

Incidentally, it might be a relatively safe occupation right now as far as job security goes.

Still, though... predictable hours and a nice pension.

But you can just join the army. Why send a dozen recruiters in a retail store.

I let multiple supervisors know theyre in the store and it seems the store director was immediately notified and seemed to kick them out himself...

The health and retirement benefits are better in the Army, hourly pay might be better at Target

Target. Military pays like crap for the most part and it's only because you basically have no expenses for long periods that you make money at all. Many members make well below minimum wage and the only reason that they are solvent is because of the lack in expenses.

Only google result I can find is about two marines in 2007 so maybe this is bullshit? Wouldn't surprise me given who TC is. But if it's true, good. Fuck the military and their predatory recruiting practices.

Target actually until you get past the first 5 ranks or so

Only real reason to join any branch of the military is experience in a field that will lend itself to what you want afterwards. They do pay for school too but not much

Pay in the military starts pretty low, but gets better as you put in time and gain rank. It is also better if you account for allowances like BAS and BAH.

I don't know what Target pays these days.

As long as you dont do something incredibly stupid or get injured you have a job for as long as you want it in the military. Most peoole just do their 20 and get out tho and get that pension.

Also if you get housing on base you dont pay any bills / rent. So military easily pays better. Free insurance too.

I wouldn't even say most do a full 20. 20 years is a long time for a career that can be pretty demanding.

These days, as of about 4 years ago, the military transitioned to a blended retirement system. Basically a mixture of the traditional pension plan and a Thrift Savings Plan, with basically acts like an IRA. You volunteer a percentage of your basic pay allowance and the military will match it up to 5%. Though the military will also contribute 1% on your behalf whether you volunteer any of your pay or not. It does give servicemembers a little something to take away even if they don't do a full 20.

A lot do their 4 year active, 4 year reserves and take advantage of one of the GI bills for college. Or, if they were smart, used resources like TA or NavyCOOL to pay for college courses or certifications while they were in.

Some will also get Medboarded and enjoy collecting disability payments after.

That is also mostly true. You would either live on base in barracks, on a ship, etc if you're single or in on-base housing if you're married. Or you would be granted BAH to pay for a place to live off base.

You would also either be provided meals at the on-base dining facility or granted BAS to pay for food.

Just depends on your specific circumstance.

I mean, we're not at war right now. It's probably better than working Target. Even including the Drill Instructor, I imagine you get yelled at less frequently in the army.

Because no soliciting at the store. Pretty dumb of the recruiters.

Reminds me that next summer I have to fill out a form so that military recruiters arent allowed to get my kids info when she enters high school.

FYI, anyone with high school kids should fill one out and submit to their schools: https://www.studentprivacymatters.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Parent-Toolkit-for-Student-Privacy-Appendix-C_PCSP-CCFC.pdf

Didn't people troll the hell out of their twitch channel? I vaguely remember something about that.

It should be illegal for the army to solicit anywhere. Most kinds of solicitation is illegal on private property. But the military gets a free pass because it's in the best interests of the government.
