I love him a lot. He's probably my best friend but I don't know how to reconcile that he's a monster.

That's actually cute. I'd be proud that the cat has good hunting skills outside just as cats should.

If the cat has no animals to kill it will probably kill the humans.

You just have to play with your cat(s) more. It's easier if you have more than one cat and they get along because then they can play with each other.

Cats are predators it's in their nature to hunt and kill. Every cat has this in them, some just don't get as many opportunities to kill stuff.

My uncle would let his cat out during the day when he lived in the country. It would hunt and kill field mice, then put them in a pile on his porch. By the end of the day, there would usually be 8-10 dead field mice sitting in a pile.

My house used to be next to a field, which got developed several years ago. All the field mice fled into people's houses. Our cats caught a few, but they gave them to us alive, so we put them further out of town.

In just the 48 contiguous United States, scientists estimate that domestic cats kill between one to four billion birds each year, plus an additional 6 to 22 billion small mammals and hundreds of millions of reptiles and amphibians.

Sure, although I can't say my uncle liked having to dispose of all those dead mice every day. But the kitty did get a treat every night.

This too, cats hunt for entertainment if they don't need to for food.

Any snake a cat can catch isn't dangerous.

My cat would lose interest in her prey as soon as she brought it inside the house. She'd drop it on the kitchen floor and it'd scuttle under the fridge, then she'd walk away with an attitude that said, "OK, it's your problem now."

I killed a lizard trying to catch it as a kid. I cried. Poor bastard. Died just because I wanted to hold him. Later I got good at catching the black and striped ones. We fed them juicy black ants. I felt guilty after a week and let each go. I kept putting myself in their shoes and it would suck if I was caged in.

Cats (particularly feral cats, but outdoor cats contribute as well) are actually an invasive species and as someone above mentioned are responsible for billions of wildlife loss per year. Sure, a lot of what theyre killing are pests, but a lot of what theyre killing arent. Feral and outdoor cats lower biodiversity in whatever area theyre in, which contributes to greater problems in the sustainability of ecosystems. Which is not good for humankind.
