The only time a case even came close to this in California was when a dude chased a home invader outside of his house the guy was running away and he shot him in the back in the middle of the street as he was running away To be fair, I'd be afraid the home invader would try again as revenge for chasing him out of my home. So, yeah, generally speaking, turns out adults are 'on their own' for injuries unless they can prove it was something intentional, such as marijuana farmers in Humboldt County putting razorwire near their plants.
