Pretty good story for a game this old, while it still maintains some of the absurdity of older games for comedic effect (like using an owl to convince a guard it's nighttime so he'll move out of the way).

Really good for its time but this game would have really benefitted from a remake. Unfortunately that ship has long sailed.

It's got the hallmarks of future games with half the budget and tech behind it. Heady sci-fi concepts and a heavily political story punctuate emotionally affective character drama, with call backs to the original game already predicting the series' future web of lore. Events like the fight with Gray Fox or Big Boss pack big punches even in spite of the game's presentation. Also it takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas games rule.

It is stunningly ambitious for a 1990 action game, but its still a 1990 action game. You can see a load of Kojimas future narrative tendencies such as real social issues and the future geopolitical prospects of the world, however they dont get explored to the same depth and the whole expecting the Soviet Union to last until at least 1997 created issues for the series future chronology. Also Solid Snake is a boring character and the worst Metal Gear protagonist I will take no further questions on this matter.

10 - MG2 offers pretty much everything the 3D games do, it's just limited by being way ahead of its time.

7, I played it a few years ago and was really impressed with this game. I don't remember too many specifics but I can imagine people being absolutely blown away by it when it came out.
