And yet that's not at all an excuse for the actual fucking FLOTUS to essentially say "Well what the fuck have you done lately?" like she and we have equal impact on the government.

You have the ability to vote though, so yes you do have a large impact.

Problem is, so many complainers do just that. Complain. They don't even bother voting, then throw up their hands and ask "how could this have possibly happened!?"

Lots of good voting has done us

People voted for Obama and he said that codifying Roe would be one of the first things he did in office, two years later he was asked about it and said "That's not a priority"

People voted for them and they constantly do nothing except go "Maybe you should vote harder"

Hillary Clinton did the same thing once. Met with a bunch of BLM activists and then basically told them to come back when they had some sort of actionable plan rather than just grievances.

The biggest protests were in places like LA, DC, and NYC. It's a sick taunt to tell people who have done everything they legally can within a system that renders them voiceless to try harder. But if you'd like them to go beyond what the law allows, by all means just say so

As much as her statement definitely carries the "yikes" you can only get from an out of touch boomer (with hands on the controls to actually fix things no less)... she's not technically wrong.

We've long since reached the point where walking up and down streets yelling and waving little pieces of paper around clearly isn't getting the job done. I mean... we have evidence all around us. The job isn't getting done. Nobody with the power gives a single solitary fuck about posters, slogans, or marches. Clearly.

Non-voters are people who feel no investment in helping Democratic elected officials out; it's on the party to change that, not the other way around. Placing the onus on the most invested people for not trying hard enough makes no sense.

It could've been phrased better, but "don't just protest" is a valid thing to say. Even after all of this, the GOP is favored to win the midterms.

Yeah shame on us for thinking Biden who explicitly campaigned on his ability to work with politicians of all stripes would be able to whip his own fucking party in to voting for his/their agenda.

Anyway there is nothing he can do, moderates get it done, lefties need to stfu and get out of the way, etc., etc.

It's negative reinforcement. Saying "well that won't work", particularly as a statesperson (and yes the FLOTUS is a statesperson) does nothing to direct or energize people.

To counterpoint, AOC routinely communicates about actions that can be taken in addition to protest, and doesn't just toss to November while people are frustrated now.
