This is what happens when you let any jackass with a pulse and two braincells to rub together to acquire a gun. Way too many people have them. Most civilians aren't properly trained or responsible enough to own guns.

There need to be extensive background checks and mental health evaluations for anyone looking for a license to own a firearm. To be renewed yearly, with another background check and mental health evaluation at each renewal.

This would couple with a yearlong waiting period to purchase a firearm. The initiation of the application would start and one can get the ball rolling on the eval and BC, so once the year is up one should be cleared for purchase.

People should be required to go through a multi-week course on each weapon type they wish to own, which includes in-depth reviews of the harm that firearms cause. This would be footage of victims, as well as impact statements from survivors and surviving family members.

You want a handgun? That's a course. Shotgun? Another course. Long rifle? Another course. For each and every weapon you hope to purchase.

There needs to be yearly excise tax on each firearm owned which will contribute to a fund to help victims of gun violence, as well as help fund police efforts to curb gun violence.

Each gun owned should be insured like a car, should any incident happen where the gun owner is found to be at fault, their insurance can pay out for damages.

This should be the starting point for reasonable gun ownership.

On top of this, a robust gun buyback program for anyone looking to reduce or eliminate the amount of firearms they own.

On top of this, red flag laws.

Yeah, it is a mall code of conduct, it isn't like there are criminal charges associated to violating it. Now he could still get sued in civil court for wrongful death, but that isn't the same as being charged with a crime.

What logic is that; I had a new digital camouflage, cut resistant infantry vest made to go over top of body armour, it made it look like I was wearing such when I was out and about, lot of people out there like me that just need the armour to go out there and face the world sometimes.

I miss that vest, my slide rule was in it.

Americans are in a situation where the market saturation of guns has made it viable for people to openly walk around in body armour; de-escalation is the ultimate goal but to bar people from protecting themselves with body armour while allowing the continued use of very powerful weapons that can easily tear apart standard police issue vests, is absurd.

Most cops only wear LVII-LVIIIA armor. It's not exactly top end when in comes to protection. Pretty much any rifle out there will punch right through it, even a couple different handgun rounds.
