Starting to get more efficient at the game. Starting with very broad terms helps. Though I suspect it's still very much luck based.

I solved today's Redactle (#117) in 57 guesses with an accuracy of 64.91%.

Not a term I'd normally think of but I'm at least familiar with.

I solved Redactle #117 in 50 guesses with an accuracy of 62.00%.

Got a good idea of the general area by guess ~30, then just took a bit to narrow it down.

Got a big help from the unredacted bit about tons per axle. That told me it was probably a vehicle of some sort, so I tried vehicle words until I got rail and that was pretty much it.

Those a-ha moments are great. Being from the Northeast though, it's not a word I think I have ever used. I had to dig into terms.

I figured out right-of-way and got too into streets and things. It's just close enough that I'd get just enough hits to keep thinking of, like, stop sign or lane or something. Getting "vehicle" in the first predicate got me back on track (haha) but it still took a while.

I solved today's Redactle (#118) in 125 guesses with an accuracy of 20.00%.

Bad, short article today

I liked today's even though I agree it was too short. Glad you didnt need the word in parenthesis or I never would have gotten it. Was about 140 for me. Been a slightly better string of puzzles past few days.

Not feeling good about getting this one.

That was annoying. I saw the unredacted AND, OR, which got me the word in parentheses, but then that led to about 40 guesses related to logic and programming, which got me precisely nowhere until I just started trying random computer and internet terms and got lucky with the first word.

This one whooped my ass. I was like 30 guesses deep with one hit so I threw in the towel.

Got sidetracked thinking it was a more physical computer related term, like hard drive or something.

Yikes, pretty different kind of thing today without spoiling anything. You can tell from the layout what I mean. I got it by looking at a map for a word that would probably be the name of a lot of things in other categories listed. 62 guesses.

Bullshit article again. I got lucky when I uncovered a film directed by David ________. Being a bit of a film nerd helped, so I eventually hit on Schwimmer which led to the answer

Ended up giving up. I'm disappointed since my favorite Japanese singer appeared on this one.

Yeah, that was probably the most blatantly easy one so far. I've had perfects but this one really stands out and takes not much thinking.

Got lucky with one of my standard starter words.

Not sure what that starter word was that could have led to this answer.

I got it in about 100. Made a ton of typos today. A lot of the time I'll be typing and when I try to hit L, I bump the backspace button instead and submit my answer before I notice. I do it on my phone so it can be pretty sensitive.

I originally thought it was going to be about a book, play, movie, story of some kind because all of those words were found in the article. Way off though.

At the time I quit, I was at about 20.

I am over 100 and still nothing.

I think I'm just going to quit on any article that 'Church' or 'Religion' pops up on. I know next to nothing about it. I know it's in London but all I know in London are the Bridge, Eye, and Big Ben.

Looked it up. Zero chance I would have gotten that since I never saw it as that. I tried a million 4 letter words. Never would have tried that one.

Got the one from 2 days ago perfect (guessed "John" when i realized it was probably a person) and got confused like everyone else with yesterday's.

I only got the second word from today's puzzle and gave up pretty quick. I never went past trig and advanced algebra in high school, so i never would have guessed the subfield.

Had this one's number. I stared at the first redacted word for a bit and counted some letters before I correctly deduced what it was going to be, and then the title was the natural followup from there.

Damnit, I shoulda had this around 6 or 7. I got that it was a fish at the 4th guess. Guessed salmon for 5th. Couldn't think of another 6-lettered fish. I even ran through Presidents and not once did I think of Madison in my whole list of James'. Eventually, I did "President" because all the 7 lettered last names I tried weren't working and I was like ".......So it IS a President and I didn't consider someone?........" then it hit me like 6 seconds later.

Man, if only it came to me sooner, this would have been a 2-hit strike.

Tips for how you could come to this conclusion:

Two words can sometimes mean a name. In this case, the 5 and 7 words were followed by a 2 lettered world + a period. Signalling this was likely a "Jr."

"Was" is a word uncensored, cluing in that this person we are looking for is dead.

"An"..... then an 8 lettered word likely would hint that the person's nationality is 1 - that of a Vowel-starter and 2 - from a country where national identity is 8 letters long (So American seemed more than likely here with this + the Jr. tip-off, Italian is 7 so too short. Irish is 5, so too short. Coulda been something like Albanian or Armenian but again, less less likely)

Then when you figure that out, you could look through the article to see how many sentences start with 2-lettered words. Because if there's quite a bit, and there was..... you'd know "He" probably starts a bunch meaning for sure it is a man. (could be with three for women but lots of historical figures are men)

If you see anything bracketted with something like 2 / ? / 4 - 2 / ? / 4 or 1 / ? / 4 - 1 / ? / 4, it usually means their birthdate to their death.

Once you do enough puzzles, you'll get used to knowing what you are looking for, and you'll likely be able to tack down what the genre the article is floating towards. Like if you see something like:

aaaa
f(F-F) ff

You can probably deduct that the article will be math or science based since it's using a lot of 1-lettered words (Probably for some kind of formula.... so likely try science-y words to see if anything hits)
