The Rugby Football Union has recommended that transgender women be barred from playing in womens matches.

The decision was made after a two-year review, and if accepted by the RFU Council, the new policy could be implemented before the 202223 season.

A statement read:
The RFU council will vote on a recommendation for a policy change for contact rugby to only permit players in the female category whose sex recorded at birth was female.
This is a complex and difficult decision and the recommendation has not been made lightly or without thorough and full research and consultation.
The RFU has contacted registered trans female players, on whom the policy will have a direct impact to offer its support in continuing to encourage them to participate in the sport.
Prior to this change in policy, the English governing body had occasionally let transsexual women to compete in womens rugby.
English rugby has since changed its position, claiming that research shows that male puberty causes physical disparities and advantages in strength, stamina, and physique.

"We know we're banning you from women's matches, but perhaps you'll consider continuing to play the sport?"

Yep. It was always about exclusion but they'll try and use a pretty smile at the end to make themselves seem like they're doing us a favor.

Seems like for the safety of other competitors in a womans contact sport it would be a good idea to define what a woman is for that sport. Its different than swimming or weight lifting. Here you need to physically protect the competitors from each other.

Not sure what pogo said, but his current user status indicates it was a poor decision to say it.

Also, this is basically a trans ban from Rugby period. If trans women are "too strong" to compete against cis women (Incidentally, forcing trans kids to hold off transitioning until adulthood puts them in this scenario far more often), they surely don't expect them to complete against men?

Also I'm guessing trans women who did transition before puberty are also excluded?

It's just a sport people play to flex how long they can continuously run around for...I mean that's impressive but do a marathon instead...at least you aren't chasing your tail and get to point a to point b

Never seen anybody follow any positions when I watched. It was literally like those old Disney goofy cartoons where it's total chaos and all you see is a dust cloud and a group of flesh huddled around each other moving in the direction the ball moved

I thought it was a dig at the (most likely) men who made the decision, but I didnt see the follow up post that got deleted as I buggered off knowing things werent going to go well.

I hate the sport, but had to play it for six years every weekend. I can tell you, there are definitely fixed positions.

While youre at it, add that its generally classist shit, too. Here (and I imagine Britain is the same), Rugby [union] is the sport played at elite private schools. At public schools here, League is far, far more common.

That's the point: narrowly defining femininity along traditional white, patriarchal lines. Look at all the black women they ban from the Olympics.
My point is that this is just the beginning of the horrors to come. And anyone who aids and abets it is complicit.

Old sports are being too old hat? Create new sports, divide the leagues by different traits, let the folks without necks have their rugby

And I know rugby is different than 90% of sports, but I'm sure they could level things like t levels, and maybe muscle mass compared to the average and top women in the game to be as inclusive as they can be.

Rugby, football, and MMA are sports where it would be super easy for anybody who went through male puberty to crush a cis woman's skull if they were big enough before transition.
