I really want to learn how to make my own instead of relying on the pre-made curry blocks that come from the store.

It doesn't sound too difficult.

The bit of sweetness is from apple.

I believe fuji apple is grated into the curry.

Reminds me of my high school days when wed go on a sports trip and at the rest stops you could go up to a vending machine and press what you wanted. The vending machine would spit out a picture that you give to the casher since there is a language barrier. English in the japanese boonies is non existant lol.

It can get the sweetness from other things as well. Sometimes honey or bananas are used, and there are a large number of potentials based on where you are specifically (such as the usage of jams).

It can be time consuming but it's not actually that difficult, yeah. You can also essentially make a "roux block" akin to what you buy from the store and basically have a million curries pre-prepared.

It's not bad, but if I'm eating Japanese it's near the bottom of what I go for. Such interesting flavours I'm more interested in from that cuisine than some mild curry.

Also, visually it's kind of a miss for me. Looks very unappealing.

Hmm, never had it. I have had lots of Japanese food, and lots of curry of the Indian, Thai and Ethiopian varieties, but never specifically Japanese curry.

Fucking love it there's a place nearby called Coco Ichibanya where you can customize your curry plate. I went recently and got the tonkatsu plate with vegetables and an egg (omelette) on top of my rice. Friggin delicious.

Interesting. Never heard of jam in curry.
