The cat does take a few cutscene falls and walks with a limp for a short bit afterwards, and there's a trophy for dying 9 times, but the deaths aren't much. You either die by getting swarmed by zurks (headcrabs basically) over a few seconds or shot by robots with an electrical blast which drops you instantly.
