Apperently not professional enough. Same goes for the Taco Bell employee who thinks using boiling water was the best action

What other weapon should the employees used to defend themselves?

Show me where they did anything but yell.

The video has no audio so I don't know where you got that they yelled (which isn't in the video) and are arguing they didn't go behind the counter (which is in the video)

Uhh no weapon? If there is no threat of a weapon being used you don't use lethal force.

Batman apparently has all the audio and can tell the workers were unhinged and screaming while the employees were politely wondering what happened to the order.

Literally no angry customer, in the entire history of angry customers, has followed employees into an employees only section of the store or restaurant without the intent to cause harm.

They were clearly behind the counter. Timestamp 1:00 in the video in the op. Shut the fuck up.
I guess this may come as a complete shock and surprise to you, but behind the counter actually is not a sacrosanct no-man's-land where the law permits you to do whatever you please to people that cross it. Being behind the counter isn't in and of itself proof if imminent danger and customers routinely cross behind there all the freaking time and at no point is it permissible to act as if doing so is a threat to your life.

You'd have somewhat of a point if they actually crossed that line and were fully behind the counter, or had hopped over the counter, but they didn't even do those things either. One person barely had a toe over the threshold, and neither of those customers had their hands raised or a weapon out.

Sorry bro, but there was no threat here that required scalding water as a response to it. You don't get to fuck with your customers order several times and then pour boiling water over them when they get understandably irate.

Mistakes happen with fast food. Customers have no right to cause a scene over an incorrect order. You think that's going to make employees want to help them?

And of course they locked the doors! It was almost midnight! They would have had to unlock them to let the customers in. You also literally cannot be locked in by a pushbar.

You're seriously going to imply that this was a premeditated attack? That Taco Bell conspired to let them in, quietly lock the door behind them, then refuse to fix the order so they could get the customers upset and then feel justified in dumping hot water on them?
Dude if mistakes happen in fast food then angry customers also happen because of those mistakes. At no point do you get to pour scalding hot water on them because you refuse to fix those mistakes.

It wasn't boiling but it can be lethal regardless. The minor suffered a seizure en route to the hospital because of the burns according to the lawyer but the thing about force is that there's not truly such a thing as non lethal force. A simple push can kill someone.

When people mean "lethal force" it usually means a weapon designed for killing other people and not just anything that causes harm.

Your interpretation of this video is that the customers were calm and speaking in an inside voice? Cause if so that's even less reason to assume they were being threatening, you know that right?

Like maybe in your mad dash to counter points snippet by snippet without regard to context you may want to consider the large picture of what you're actually arguing for.

Where are you getting the audio? What was the order? What was the error? Who "refused" to fix it?

Customers have no right to get so mad over mistakes. I can guarantee you everyone I know would offer worse service to an irate customer. You act like angry customers aren't almost always wrong.

I am saying you're making shit up that is not corroborated by the video. Because if you want to play that game I can just say the customer obviously said "I'm going to fucking kill you" just before barging through the gate to the kitchen area.

The article has no transcripts of audio and no statements from the employees. You're drawing a lot of intent and conclusions out of one side of the story.

I mean, there is an implication that the door was purposely locked to prevent escape.

In some cases sure but I would argue a good chunk of those are HIGHLY unlikely. Like unarmed without anything to use you are unlikely to maim a fucker unless you were Super Man or fighting the world frailest person.

And that is also based on just how people fight in general. Where as throwing anything that can cause burns is going to be SPECIFIC for the purpose of causing that level of damage.

From the footage I highly doubt the situation ever calls for it. Because again just the damage you can do with it is going to be an instant thing.

OK so the customers were calm, cool, and collected in asking the fast food employees for the 3rd time to fix their order; the employees refused; then the customers walked over to the edge of the counter where then those fast food employees poured scalding hot water on them, locked them inside, and attempted to pour a 2nd bucket of water on them.

I'm sorry but could you explain again how the scalding hot water in response to level headed customers asking an employee to fix their order was justified again? Cause now it seems like you're not even arguing for self defense anymore, you're just arguing for the right to brutalized people because fast food employees shouldn't have to fix their mistakes.
