CC is 200

add them up

would have been the more common way to write it, you are correct

edit: there are other things like this in roman numerals also, IIII for 4 comes to mind

Roman numerals aren't really hard on "the rules". Clocks regularly use IIII instead of IV, because it's easier to manufacture that way.

It's for a tattoo, so I kind of didn't want to badly get this one wrong, lol.

it's also like you can say

"15-hundred dollars"

or

"1 thousand and 500 dollars"

or

"1.5 thousand dollars"

you still arrive at the same number in the end.

it isn't. Roman numerals don't do place notation, at all.

but that's pretty fucky

They didn't even try to teach us that in school!
