I like The Thing better, but ItMoM had more of an impact on me. I saw it as an adolescent and had no idea what it was or who John Carpenter was going in. It was the first real mindfuck of a movie I ever watched and I loved every minute of it. The ~~4th wall break a~~ at the end was something that for me at the time was complete unprecedented for any movie with a serious tone. I would have definitely voted for it if it was an option. Prince of Darkness was extremely good too, but the least extremely good in the "trilogy" imo.
