If anything, I think it's the other way around; Hollywood tends to white-wash the true portrait of the Middle-Ages, the time of the Vikings and the Crusades. We keep seeing people in those movies/shows with perfect skin, shining lustrous hair, and with 6 pack abs. We don't even have that in the average modern American. Lol.

Holy hell I agree with tc on something. The middle ages were colorful as fuck. There are so many misconceptions about it that prevail to this day because of victorian art/stories and modern movies. Hell movies from the 50s portrayed the middle ages better

Texas had no electricity last winter. And I heard some places in the US don't even have running water as we speak. Oh, and don't get me started on how New Yorkers turned feral when there was a power outage.

I was there when that happened and nobody was "feral"

The most asshole thing I saw the entire time were people selling cold water bottles for $9 each.

Not upset at all. It is nice to know. Maybe we take color for grantedz but fail to realize how would that make their lives better in any way. Did they have color festivals like they do in India or something?

Like many things people believe about the MA, this is much more a relic of the Early Modern Period. So yes, demonstrably false.

100% correct! Our current images of the MA were the invention of Early Modern writers and thinkers (as well as modern ones) who had a vested interest in portraying their predecessors and their lives as worse than they were. Petrarch in particular, though he's writing from the late medieval period, is credited with creating the erroneous term "Dark Ages."

I can't recall the specifics on that one, but still, even if people couldn't wear color, they still liked colorful things. Same with those in antiquity before them.

Many of those old marble statues were painted rather garishly, but has since worn away

And I'm pretty sure togas came in more colors than just white...
