had a co worker take in a fake 100 yesterday. Or have you ever seen a fake bill, and then declined to take it?

Nope, never. I had a counterfeit detection pen provided for me or brought one of my own and always checked anything over a $20. Never saw a fake.

Not that I'm aware of. I got an aluminum quarter once, that was kind of neat. Bought it out of the till and kept it.

I used to work at a casino on the gaming floor. One of my duties was breaking bills and giving change. I had a customer ask me to break a $100. Normally, we wouldn't spend time checking bills since it was so fast paced on the floor, and it annoys people which reduced our chances of getting a tip if they happened to win a jackpot. If a counterfeit did get passed, the vault cashiers would catch it later anyways. But we were encouraged to check large bills with our pens since counterfeits were being passed in the region.

The hundred I got was counterfeit. I was puzzled at first, had never seen a positive pen mark. I probably should've paid attention during training. I called over a nearby security guard who then took the bill and escorted the customer away. The on-site FBI agent, which up until then I had no idea was a thing, questioned the customer and Secret Service was notified.

The way money actually works, a counterfeit bill is totally "real" up until the exact moment someone figures out otherwise.

No, though I only worked at my family's places, always had that marker for 50s and up sitting on the register. Though I dont think I ever saw it change color.
