To be honest, there's absolutely no reason we should have had over a decade of Quantitative easing across 3 terms of presidents. There's a ton of blame to go around here for (intentionally) shitty economic policy.

Government isn't going to call it a recession regardless if it is or not. For the past week news programs have been talking about the traditional definition of a recession and whether or not we are moving into one while Government is saying that the traditional definition is not the true definition and because Chair Powell says we aren't in a recession, then we aren't. Apparently the job market is too hot for this to be a recession.
