You would probably be diagnosed with high functioning autism (Specifically aspergers) if you were re-tested. This is pretty much my story. in the 90s kids like this were lumped as 2e or twice exceptional, or even diagnosed with really niche disorders like non-verbal learning disorder-but now it's almost all lumped into autism

A lot of people with high IQs have learning disabilities

I had to take one for the gifted program when I was kid. Forgot what the minimum was to pass.

Completely inaccurate statement. IQs are extremely accurate predictors of success in society, especially with regards to capability in high science fields. They are also highly accurate on retests.

You cannot be good or bad at an IQ test. An IQ test measures your IQ.

most importantly, IQ tests are important for managing and identifying learning disabilities.

Once again, a completely inaccurate statement. You can almost predict LSAT scores from IQ tests.

Also, most people can become a lawyer. Whether or not you are a 80k a year lawyer vs the one people are thinking about is also something different entirely.

There's a difference between being smart and being clever. IQ seems to go more to clever than smart.

I've been told I've got a room temperature IQ. Considering the AC is broke that means I'm pretty smart.

I took one a couple years back and got an 82. Below average. Kinda feels limiting at times knowing i'm dumb, but what can you do. Apparently my math skills, problem solving and memory, are average to high average but my language, verbal and general knowledge are very low and dragged down my score.

Those are the talking points of people that are uncomfortable with people having differing levels of cognitive ability. IQ tests typically are administered by psychogists and take an extensive amount of time. I'm guessing you either took online IQ "tests" or took several tests as a child, when your IQ can vary the most.

That's training for the test, which nullifies the test.

IQ is something that strongly correlates with the g factor, or general intelligence. It's not a perfect measure by any means, but people overstate its problems because they believe that other people believe that having a higher IQ makes someone a more valuable person and they don't like that notion.

Haven't taken a test, but I'm pretty sure it's close to 200 or so. Maybe 185-190.

There's a difference between being smart and being clever. IQ seems to go more to clever than smart.

This is a common layman's misunderstanding of IQ. Verbal/Reasoning IQ allow a person to use logical, rational thinking to come with "Clever" methods for solving issues. Important for academics.

Actually engaging with the world and being "smart" such as putting a radiator together, social skills, organizational skills are associated with higher spatial/performance IQs.

Most IQ tests are given to people who have learning disabilities to help identify better learning strategies. thus oftentimes people have IQs but appear "not smart" due to particular issues such as dysgraphia, auditory encoding issues (not understanding what people say makes someone seem dumb)

Thank you. It's rare people actually appreciate such an obviously high IQ.

Whenever I try to take an online iq test they try to make me pay for it at the end or some shit. I dunno man, but Id assume its a bit above average

After the results were given, it provided a link for psychological counseling.

I also had to take one professionally.

Someone reported me on how I spent money and was suddenly given a court appointed payee to all of my income because I didn't bother to open that letter in the mail.

Worst one year of my life because the payee was horrible to me.

That would explain a lot of things. I was thinking about this before , however you coming in speaking about this just helps push me closer to that conclusion.

i mean, it's just a label. it doenst mean anything unless it has impacted your life. however, if it does impact your life (social/academic) you can get tested and learn coping strategies.

They seized my bank accounts and credit cards as well.

Twelve months with only what the court appointed payee deemed for me weekly to spend.

I think I might have had an IQ test done at one point? I don't remember the results of it, but I remember it being fairly high. The issue with me isn't the IQ, its that I had issues with brain functions in my late 20s which messed everything else up. I might have had an IQ of high 110s, low 120s? I'd have to get it checked again to make sure.

So while I can probably out think most people on a basic level, my anxiety and memory blanks end up messing me up in the end.

Incidentally, you can have a high IQ and still be dumb as a box of hammers. Look at some of these serial killers for example, like Edward Kempner.

Yeah I know, it's kind of in this evolving nexus state, at least the way we're trying to understand it.
