That the dude he actively betraying would be in complete control of. If he had succeeded he would be trapped in an underground bunker surrounded by ultimate killing robots under the control of House (Who would kill him on the spot) and just outside would be an army of raping murderers who would kill him the second he came out after making a noise if he ran away. People seem to look over over that because of the NCR/Leigon plots but Benny was a complete buffoon. And frankly so is real life. That's possibly the most realistic thing in the entire fallout franchise lol You can describe Japan bombing Hawaii because we cut off their oil so then we nuked them in a goofy way, bemoaning that we could have just worked together. And that's not fiction. Turns out humans are good at conflict. But Benny wasn't a faction or a nation, he was a single dude. I still like him as a character, but if you maximize dialogue with him you can tell that after a certain point the writers were backflipping through hoops trying to maintain his Rat Pack lingo while spelling out every aspect of his very serious plan. Nobody ever accused the NV writers of being lazy though, and I'll take one overwritten character over ten underwritten ones any day of the week.
