but damn that convenience factor after you spend your arm and a leg is pretty nice. I always like when a feature is built in rather than requiring me to go and find an app to do it. and goddamn does macOS have a lot baked into the OS.

iPadOS is slowly getting there too, not quite there yet though

In terms of price vs Power, the mac mini and M1 Air are literally untouchable. The only weakness they have is gaming and OS restrictions. Which most of the market doesn't care about anyway despite what people on this board lead you to believe, people mostly want computers for productivity reasons and not to run the newest games at max settings.

im pretty happy with my two MBPs too. One is more work/portable and the other is my personal one and has better specs (1tb and 16 inch screen as compared to 512 and 14 inch, also less cores)

Sure, I didn't really need two, but it all synergizes well since i'm already deep in the apple ecosystem.

the iPad though i'm not really impressed with, maybe I should draw more.

M1 Mac mini desktops go on sale for around $500-550 sometimes.

not in their budget ones. The samsung line however makes quality tablets if you aren't going with knock off quality shit from walmart. Pick up an S7 FE or whatever and be surprised by the capability and functionality of it. Damn shame the ipad is killing every competitor in the market though, everything is optimized for it only most of the time as far as tablet experience is concerned but nothing for Android because they don't have enough market share.

Like reddit for example, in tablet mode you can't use it in landscape mode properly because it's locked into portrait mode on android but not on iPad. Dex mode is awesome and what Apple wishes they could do as far as diminishing the gap between iPad and Mac OS.

macs run circles around my ACTUAL work issued laptop(some dell latitude something, which ironically the model costs more than the M1 Air without employer bulk discounts, gotta love the government)

like my dell lasts like an hour on battery power, my mac lasts almost the entire day without charging, is way lighter, and doesn't use shitty barrel charger.

my gaming desktop the competition is a little more stiff but i also own a damn near top of the line gaming PC and computers can only be so fast at launching programs. Still runs on windows though so naturally it has issues.

The iPad is really made for creatives now due to the success of the apple pencil and such. Can also be used as a standalone computer for most basic things with the magic keyboard. That being said, there's no point in you doing that with you having 2 pros. For you it's better as a media consumption device instead if you just want something bigger then your phone but easier to carry around instead of lugging the pro around.

4th gen air has been getting clearenced out to make way for the 5th gen M1 air. Costco has them for 400 at the moment. You get better support, apple pencil 2 support, magic keyboard support and a better design imo for not much more money. That sale might be over today though. Had I not got my 256 GB on sale for like 350 at best buy months ago I would have been looking into the 64 GB air instead.

Macbook air hovers around 800-900 consistently. Just wait for a sale and hop on it the next time it pops up. Like right now you can get one from best buy for 850.

honestly its a small learning curve, and then you realize you don't have to fight with it. My first Mac was a 2012 macbook pro, I never used a mac before and i had only used windows since 2001, didn't have an SSD so naturally it started to struggle after some time and the battery kept swelling, so once i couldn't take it anymore 6 years later i graduated to a gaming laptop and it was like boom this is kinda fast, aand then i got a gaming desktop and it was like WHOOOOOAAAA this shit is FAST, and then I got a m1 macbook pro with the touchbar and i legit though it was the coolest thing ever LOL. I still have to fight with Windows like once or twice a week and i only do casual browsing and light gaming.

Not worth buying a 4th gen iPad Air for $400 when you can get a 5th gen iPad Air with the M1 chip and 2 extra years of support for $450 (via $50 education discount and $100 gift card promo).

Not all of us are students bro. Also 600 with a hundred in credit and 50 dollar discount isn't a 450 dollar purchase. It's a 550 dollar purchase with an extra hundred to spend later at no additional cost. And frankly that doesn't go very far with apple unless you're getting gift cards cause I don't recall them selling much for only a hundred bucks that people actually want.

for the price of the pencil and keyboard you can buy and android tablet that comes with a free pencil. Hell, the S8 threw in the case/keyboard combo for free for anyone who pre-ordered. I'm not gonna lie and say Apple doesn't make the better product, but for how expensive the shit is the goddamn better be superior. It's why I've always maintained a simple perspective regarding android and apple tablets. You get better value with Android, but you get better product and longevity with Apple but you pay out the ass for it.

You literally don't have to be students to get edu discounts brah. Apple doesn't check in any way and you don't even need an edu email.

$100 apple gift card can be used with all sorts of services you most likely already subscribe too; and if you don't, you can sell it for $85 to gift card secondary markets.

I've moved away from using Apple products. I dislike their lifespan generally speaking. Yes, you can get a decent amount of years out of a device but when Apple decides to no longer support your device, you're basically stuck using an insecure device, basically fucked. Even more-so with the latest silicon because Linux distros which support it are still half baked and busy reverse engineering hardware from a company that does the opposite of helping.

Wut

They're still literally putting out security updates for iOS/iPadOS devices that are no longer officially supported.

Yeah, and it will be insecure junk soon. Particularly true of iOS devices that lack the ability to run anything else. The iPhone 6/6+ were released in literally 2014 and they're already unsupported.

Point taken, though it doesn't mean I have to be happy with the lifecycle just because other companies happen to be worse. It's also possible to extend the lifespan of android phones by flashing them with a new system entirely. That's not something you can do on iOS as far as I know.

I'm particularly averse to buying Apple macOS devices because they're choice to go with their own silicon has rendered them about as useless as iOS devices when they stop being supported, as stated above.

also you're literally complaining that Apple isn't spending time constantly supporting nearly decade old cell phones. Did you let that one sink in?

They're getting supported for 6 years with updates.

Whereas Samsung just recently started offering support for phones for 4 years.
