I know this board still loves their JRPGs, and RPG in general. Despite us all getting older and probably not having as much time as we had when we were younger.

Has your favorite types of games changed? Do you still find yourself trying to get a couple hours in a 70 hour long epic?

Mine hasnt changed too much. I definitely have lost a lot of love for FPSs and online matchmaking compared to my younger self and dont dive into shooters all that much unless its a highly acclaimed third person shooter like Uncharted. Or even something that is a bit more story driven.

Still love arcade racers and those tend to be my go to online gaming nowadays. And despite being older having a full time job I still cant put my controller down for long RPGS of any kind. It just takes me longer to finish now.

Though a bit late to the party I do find myself enjoying rouge likes for something that I just want to play in short bursts even though the genre really never appealed to me.

My interests are still just about the same as before. Great love for platformers and adventure games, classic-styled FPS, RPGs, racing games, arcade style stuff, roguelikes, etc.

The only thing that's changed is that I simply cannot bring myself to care about turn-based strategy games anymore unless they're really simplistic. I hate dumping time into micromanagement now.

Used to be fighting games, but I just don't have the drive for them anymore.

I don't know what I would call my favorite genre right now, but I guess I do play a ton of roguelikes?

This. Not that I always liked long games that much either, but I prefer even shorter.

I really like arcade games more than I used to because of that.

The only genre I've stopped playing is jRPGs, but that was always pretty low on my priority list.

Did end up playing Persona 4/5 during the lockdown and those games rule. Only ones I've put any time into in probably a decade though

RPG's are still my favorite for sure.

I definitely do find it harder to sit down and get into a long JRPG like I could in high school and college. However the result is that I'm playing less games; not that I'm starting to move into different genres.

I guess I was also really into FPS's when I was younger and now am not at all.

Platformers and fighters as a kid. Added RPGs as a teenager. I still love all three, but I rarely play fighters anymore (although I do follow them).

I played mostly 3D platformers as a kid - Crash, Spyro, Gex, and most of all, Sonic (I liked his 2D games a lot too). I also liked racing and fighting games a lot and still do. However, I don't really like 3D plats too much anymore.

After I first played Resident Evil in 2006 my favorite genre has been survival horror and I've never looked back! Playing CoD4 in 2007 also gave me a love of the FPS genre which I still enjoy a ton to this day as well.

As a kid, I loved JRPGs. I think that pretty much was at an end by the time I got to college, though. I can still appreciate one, but I prefer games that aren't primarily grinding through turn-based battles.

Fav was always platformers leaning Metroidvanias with top series being Metroid & Mega Man with CVania not far behind annnnd yeah that's still probably the case.

JRPGs secondary but true great ones have always taken my top spot (FF6 then Xenoblade) annnd yeah that continues.

Fighters is a good one brought up here.

I loved fighters, and still do. I was definitely a better player when I was younger because I could actually put time into the mechanics and learn. As time has gone I still love fighters, I still buy certain titles at launch with intent to actually put time into it....and I don't. However, there is somewhat of a caveat to this. Fighting games have changed to the point where you aren't going to get the 'full game' until years after release due to the addition of fighting/season passes with characters, levels, ect.

Puts me in a hard spot because I really, really do love fighters. I still follow fighting games and fighting games news, keep up with tournaments here and there, but I don't have the time to put in the commitment, and it's business model also doesn't fit my time line.

I've got a few pets at this point.

4-man Squad-based co-op (Warframe, Deep Rock Galactic, Monster Hunters of various flavors)
Roguelikes (BoI: Repentance, Noita, Dicey Dungeons)
MMO (WoW, GW2, FFXIV)

I like a good JRPG, but much preferred WRPGs growing up (Ultima series in particular, but Avernum/Exile also stick out in my mind.)

Ever since I had a favorite genre, it has always been racing, but I was never a picky gamer and play and enjoy just about every broad genre out there.

I have always enjoyed shorter, endless, and/or multiplayer experiences, and that has been amplified as I have gotten older.

I used to play a lot of RPGs of any kind, and thats still my bread and butter. Slowed down my platformer usage. Maintained my actions adventure games like God of War, Horizon, and Uncharted. Love horror survival games as well. Never liked fighting or racing games too much aside from kart games.

The big thing for me now is I dont play games that have bad audience reviews on Metacritic. If it scored below a 80% Im very hard pressed to even give it a shot. If its a big game I tend to just make sure it hasnt been reviewed bombed. I dont care at all what the critics think either. I follow the masses when it comes to scores.

JRPG was and is still my favorite genre.

I basically play all genres of video games though as long as they are good.

I'm good with time management between work, kids, exercising and recreation (mostly video games). I'm easily able to log in a good amount of hours during holidays. My passion for video games hasn't waned since my childhood, infact now it might even be stronger.

Always loved a great 3rd person action adventure and that's still true but I've also found a lot more love for semi-niche indie games in the last decade

I've also gotten less patience for the huge open world games filled with filler quests

I primarily grew up with platformers and mascot games on Nintendo systems. This board and website introduced JRPG's to me and they became pretty competitive.

I'd say my overall amount of time most spent playing games:

1) Some form of Smash Bros.
2) Some form of Pokmon
3) Some form of adventure in platformer/JRPG

Now?

I just replay adventures for the most part, and the shorter the better. Pick-up and play games are the best.
