I'm really impressed with how much more legitimately mature this game is, and I don't mean in a darker or more adult way, but in the way that it handles characters more realistically and not just a bunch of tropes.

I agree. Especially Mio's scene where she blew up on Noah, and Noah being an absolute idiot and saying 'You agreed to this.' I'm only at the start of Chapter 5, but good lord that hit hard.

Chapter 5 in general is a hard-hitting one, brace yourself.

They're...not nearly as important as some people have predicted, so you might be fine with starting at 3. All you'd miss is some fanservice (not the sexy stuff) from old locations and a couple characters if you're familiar with the previous games. (You can guess who those characters are if you've seen the trailers, it's fine.)

Yep. Even down to the races that each one has (Keves has High Entia and Machina, and Agnus has Gormottis and Blades).

I dislike this about the dialogue. It's really dumb. Just let them curse. They were calling people assholes and stuff in the other two games.

Likely because despite the game using words like "shit", "bitch", and "arsehole" frequently, uttering "fuck" even once would be an instant M-rating from the ESRB, and Nintendo likely wanted the game to maintain a T-rating.

Plus, in a way, it makes thematic sense for the characters to not know the word "fuck", since they have no concept of sex at all.

It's not "less absurd" to use a bunch of in-universe curses/swears. Replacing "Jesus" with "the queen" or using a bunch of swears that directly make calls to the Flame Clock are inventive/good writing.

Is it really like 1 again? Because 2 burned me so hard, just the first 5 minutes of viewing it was like whiplash

It's gonna take a lot to convince me they're back on track with good voice acting and not over the top accents.

It is the weakest of the series, but a weak Xeno is still a really good game.

The ending to XBC3 is Mass Effect 3 bad unfortunately, legit almost soured me on the whole franchise which I adore...

Huh, this might convince me to get it Really tired of jrpg characters talking like saturday morning cartoons.

But is it still Shulk Time?

Someone on Reddit argued with me that 2 is generally considered to be better than 1. They got the upvotes too. I dont agree but there are a lot of people who call 2 their favorite.

Careful guys with potential spoiler talk, TC said he's very early in the game still.

But as for voice acting, it's tons better than in 2. It still has a wide variety of accents though, it's just that voice acting is more believable.

Xenogears eh? That's an interesting comparison... been several years since I played the game so curious why you thought of the very first xeno.

But even xenoblade 1 had references to original xenogears and then an outright big nod to gears/saga at the end

I was more thinking in terms of characterization and story. Not that it's "now dark and gritty" all of a sudden, but it treats its characters and audience with the respect of an ivalice caliber game, with actual proper voice acting, growth and development of characters.

I'm only on Chapter 3 myself, but my major criticisms of the game are the weird British localization and the repetitive in-battle dialogue.

I hope so. I praised Xenoblade 1's voice acting, but it seems like the developers took the wrong takeaway with why I liked it (not just because it's all british accents) and for sequel added ridiculous over the top scottish accents and possible irish accents and whatnot that are the equivalent of bad american dubs of animes

It's funny, they brought back Vandham's voice actor from 2, but it seems like his accent is more subdued when he talks. Like you can tell he's Australian still but it's not wacky-sounding. I wonder if he was told in 2 to overexaggerate his accent.
