I listen to my songs and do squats, draw, or practice my makeup when Im handling stress well. My unhealthy coping mechanisms are substance use, binge eating and anorexia cycles, or self harm.

The way I learned to cope during my childhood was escapism, in other words ignoring my problems. It really wasn't a good as a child and even worse as an adult.

Sleep.

A long while back, I unintentionally lashed out at someone I cared about when I was upset (I don't even remember anymore what I was upset about, but it probably didn't even have anything to do with them). I horrified myself so badly at what I did that I involuntarily developed a new reaction whenever I'm stressing or otherwise have high running emotions -- I just shut myself down and start to fall asleep. It happens even if I wasn't necessarily tired or sleepy beforehand. If someone is there to keep me awake and help alleviate the stress, I can avoid it, but if I'm on my own, I usually will pass out. I don't have any control over when this happens.

It's not really the healthiest (or most convenient or productive) stress reaction, but the way I see it, I could do far worse.

Fidget spinners. Except now Im addicted to them and I keep getting yelled at for not helping anyone when they ask me to do something that requires me to put them down. Then it stresses me out and I gotta spin more of them. It's a vicious cycle

I don't get stressed in terms of anxiety but I can get depressed. In which case I'll do something like go for a run/walk or play games.

Used to be video games and porn but then I got married and had kids. Now that I cant do that I just take it out on people like some kind of monster.

The funny thing is with all this emphasis on mental health lately, Ive found that people still dont want to listen or care, so why bother. They just play along so they dont look bad.
