Content creator and influencer Andrew Tate has been removed from Facebook and Instagram for violating Metas policies following online calls from activists for him to be deplatformed. In accordance with Facebooks policy on dangerous individuals, Tate could be considered to fall under the Tier 3 category. A spokesperson for Meta confirmed to BuzzFeed News that he was banned from using Facebook and Instagram but did not clarify if the ban was permanent or offer details on what specific policies he had breached. The 35-year-olds presence online was described as dangerous in a viral Instagram post last week by queer content creator Matt Bernstein, who detailed Tates violent, anti-gay, and misogynistic comments made during his various podcast appearances. Tates notoriety surged over the past couple of weeks in response to viral moments featuring highly offensive comments about women, including a clip where he describes them as property" and a tweet where he said women should take some responsibility for being sexually assaulted. At the time of his removal from Instagram, the British American had 4.7 million followers, 2 million of whom he acquired in the last 30 days, according to analytics platform Social Blade.

Social media users responded to Tates rising popularity by trolling him with a yassify makeover as a comment on his misogyny. Ruth Davison, CEO of Refuge, a British charity that provides support for women and children experiencing domestic violence, called the ban on Tates account the right decision in a statement provided to BuzzFeed News on Friday. This is the kind of decisive action needed to tackle the online radicalization of young men towards a violently misogynistic worldview, Davison said. The same kind of action is now needed outside of high-profile cases like this we know that women are experiencing stalking, harassment, and abuse online every day, often without so much as a response from social media companies, she said.

It isnt even Andrew that spreads the videos. It is mainly people reacting to it or posting clips. So unless social media bans every mention of him his views will still be spread by reactions and clips. Same thing happened with Jordan Peterson got banned from Twitter. And people then copied his views and spread it to other sources.

ngl, banning Andrew Tate isn't gonna stop the redpill movement. he may have been the most visible person in it, but there's an entire community based around it.

For example, the largest redpill podcast, "Fresh and Fit" pulls similiar numbers to the largest progressive political streamer on twitch, HasanAbi.

Hell, all this will do is invigorate them because they have a Martyr now. Instead of him getting his ideas shot down publically and making him look like a fool in debates, he can now claim he's a "persecuted individual" and that the "woke left couldn't argue with his ideas face to face, so they had to ban him"

I go over my grandma's house a few times a week to help her out with things around the house (she's 91), she always has Fox on the TV going. They refer to other news stations as "the media", while not including themselves. It's infuriating trying to keep my mouth shut so I don't upset her. I'm just glad we live in a blue state so her vote doesn't matter.

At this point, being banned is worked into the plan for these people. It's fun to imagine them as all idiots. But all that does is make them always one step ahead of you.

Like TC said, his whole momentum is already worked around being banned. He's on everyone else's shit and has people doing the sharing for him.

I think if you dont address the issues that cause these people to rise up. Banning Andrew Tate isnt going to change anything another person will come out with similar views.

They are not participating in debates under the pretense their ideas are potentially fallible, meaning that their diehard fans will always perceive them as correct. This was true of the altright, but it's even truer for guru-type movements, because they are innately designed to rope in the gullible and fashion a cult out of it. Regardless of Tate's morality, his template for success is directly that of cult-like or outright cult movements.

Debates would reinforce those who disagree, but most people would reject people like that. The purpose of wider exposure is not to engage with 99% of people, it is to trap the extremely small contingent that are gullible or vulnerable enough to buy into to the things cult leaders say. Any public exposure is a net benefit; the solution is to disable public exposure by mass deplatforming figures like Andrew Tate, because he cannot replace audience bleed and cannot reliably attain new followers.

This tactic can harm political movements outright, but it is a death knell for cult-like movements unless the cult leader is capable of having their own platform by sheer notoriety/public importance. It's not really possible to deplatform, say, the President, but internet people who money their way to fame can be made irrelevant overnight because they rely on attention economy to get revenue.

Basically, Tate is not someone who thinks his ideas can be challenged. He likely does not believe in much of what he says, and is utilizing his fame to direct people to pay-for programs. If he gets a million viewers, if just 1% listen to what he says, 10,000 people are giving him 80 dollars for his program. That would be 800,000$ in one month Any viewership is beneficial; it doesn't matter if you are ridiculed.

The same financial scheme is common in emails. Will 99% of people fall for Nigerian Prince scams? No, but 1% will, and that is all the people running the scam need.

It is both a cult and a financial scam; it should be ideally be criminally punishable, but Tate is currently in Romania due to their lax laws on sexual assault and sex trafficking, so deplatforming is the next best thing.

He has some good takes but his bad ones almost override them.
