Ok serious question because I never worked a white collar job before

how exactly are they not smart?

I know management in labor jobs arent really that smart in my experience but. white collar jobs?

Do big companies or big firms really make stupid or dumb people management?

most management in white collard jobs get there through means that do not reflect intelligence. anything from nepotism to asskissing to just plain old warm seats. ("hurr durr you gotta know which ass to kiss hurr")

1. Great ass kissers

2. They know somebody

3. A willingness to sacrifice their time and devote more of themselves to the job than the average person.

4. Willing to fuck other people over

All of those tend to supercede actual skill level or intelligence.

One inherent downturn with seniority is being less able to adapt.

Software, methods, etc. These people try to make big decisions but can make a huge miss in operations.

Some upper management may be on top of things, but so far from what I noticed, rarely the case.

tc do you mean smart in things like socializing, competition, norming, etc? or do you mean smart as in literal IQ?

I think management jobs and their skillset get a lot of hate online.

Like, i think it's just weird to not acknowledge that there is a certain skill set to being a manager that not everyone has. Ability to manage people and their tasks. Finances.

Hell, just being able to be given relevant bits of information from those who work for you and come up with s decision is an ability that I think is underrated.

I say this as someone who is horrible at those things and sees it's definitely a skill that you have to work up to

I mean smart as in IQ and intelligence and being legitimately qualified to do the job.

I mean my mom is no genius, and has no degree. but she has a ton of experience. you can have experience and not be that smart, it doesn't mean you're not qualified or won't do your job well. but she is not an executive just a manager. that could be where IQ makes the difference, but I'm not entirely sure as I have zero white collar experience myself.

some management jobs require more technical skill than others. I imagine an INGO program manager has to be at least somewhat good with quantitative methods.

Most of the management Ive met have been fairly unburdened by lack of knowledge. Ive always assumed it led them to make quicker decisions since they dont have to consider much besides their gut.

This trait for whatever reason appears to some to be leadership.

Years later I realize its basically the Dunning-Kruger effect applied to the workplace.
