He tells you that he can't hide it from you any longer and wants to start the process to becoming a guy. He'll understand if you want to bail out of the relationship but he really wants to be with you after the transitioning is complete and knows that it's a long shot. You deeply loved him when he was identifying as a her.

I'm imagining if my fiance told me that, and honestly I'd be fine with it. Maybe a couple hangups, but I'm sure I could figure it out. But I'm not exactly straight anyway so who knows how that plays in to it.

I wanted to say after forming a relationship but I thought people can loophole through that easily, so it's basically when you meet him. I guess if you never meet him then the transitioning doesn't happen. Lol

Honestly I was just curious to see what others think because I was talking about the subject of transgenders with a friend and started to think what happened if that happened to my girlfriend, what would i do in that situation and honestly this was harder than I thought. I wanted to say that I would stay with them because they'll keep their personality but something just feels (for the lack of a better word) off. Idk

I don't think you can. You're asking for the perspective of us before we start dating them but then we warp 5 years into the future without any of the actual impact of a 5 year relationship explained. Then the question is leading our minds to something else and we wouldn't even have time to consider the 5 year relationship before we're making a decision of if we think love is powerful enough to continue being with someone we might not be sexually attracted to anymore.

I knew going into my relationship that my SO wanted to transition. Why does gender matter so much to you?

I mean.. we can be very emotionally close best friends but I'm not gonna want to have sex or be physically affectionate with them when their physical appearance reflects their gender.

That's sort of the relationship I found myself in, except it was closer to 3 years. Even though I generally found myself romantically "straight" and still do, I stayed anyway. We got married 4 years ago (anniversary was on the 20th).

There was never any question of abandoning the relationship. Person I love is still the same person, and it's not like my feelings suddenly went away. I'm just happy my spouse is feeling more free to be his authentic self.

Hopefully I make some sense here because I feel like I'm probably going to say something dumb? Idk. I figured that people when entering the topic would know how their version of the perfect relationship would be 5 years down the road (i just picked 5 years as a random time frame, figured that it was long enough) and then use that thought process to determine if they feel like that love from the 5 years is strong enough to be with someone you might not be sexually attracted. I don't want anyone to be in a rush to answer this, take all the time you need to imagine how the perfect relationship would be like for you. Use a template if you need to (like if you're currently in a wonderful relationship ATM, just think what would you do if they transitioned)

This actually happened to me, but I didnt know and neither did they.

I supported them through their transition but ultimately couldn't stay in the relationship.
