How does seeing a "Please wait to be seated" sign when entering a restaurant make you feel?

Primarily looking for customer opinions, if you work in full service dining you can still weigh in with a customer pov, but employee opinions are not the purpose of this poll

I have heard mixed opinions on such signs.

I have heard some say they have a hostile presence and make guests feel less welcome, and in some cases even like they are being yelled at

Others have told me they provide assurance that somebody will come to greet them, even if it takes a moment.

Similarly I have heard strong opinions in regard to the LACK of such a sign, that unless there is someone permanently stationed at the entrance the lack of signage is confusing, and they don't know what is expected of them to get served.

What are yalls thoughts?

I don't think I've ever had a thought about those signs in my life.

No feelings about it one way or the other. It's pretty common to see that in restaurants. And it usually doesn't take long for staff to come back.

If there isnt a person you need a sign, simple either that or people assume they can just wander in

If someone is offended by this sign and leaves, you've dodged a bullet.

None, unless the hostess is clearly not coming, and I'm waiting.

I think "This probably means they want to seat me/us in a certain section, or just to keep track of us so the servers don't have to be constantly scanning the seating area for newcomers."

I guess that's no feels.

Completely neutral. Those signs never made me feel anything, so they're fine with me.

I don't feel any type of way about them. Sign? Ok, I'll wait to be seated. No sign and nobody present? I'll assume we seat ourselves wherever we feel like sitting and will do so.

Good restaurants have no sign AND it is assumed that you wait to be seated like a normal civilized person

But otherwise, no feels

Also, think about all the physical interactions over Covid precaution signs at restaurants. Always going to be somebody upset about something.

i'm noticing that currently bad feels outnumber good feels, yet posts that actually say one way or another are exclusively good or neutral. I'd like to hear from some of the bad feels people.

I may be wrong but I'm fairly certain every full service establishment in the united states fits that description.

What do we mean by good restaurant? Like, simply well managed? Or higher quality / fine dining establishment?
