I was coming up on a red light, with a car in front of me, and my breaks just, like gave out. Luckily that other person was fine and only took some damage to his bumper. I only had some cuts and bruises.

I don't understand exactly what happened with my breaks yet, at first I was slowing down, then it kept getting harder to slow down the harder I pressed on them until I was slamming them and at that point I was already like a second before hitting them before I tried to get to the ebrake with no luck.

Also Luckily (thank God for all of this) I have full coverage and should be able to get a new car withing a month or so. It really sucks too, because I got that car with my dad, when he was alive. And it was one of the closest things to him I had. ;-;

Glad your ok, and no one was seriously injured

but how is your car totaled and his only had minor bumper damage? Was he driving a Humvee and you a smart car?

Thank you both, and I'm glad I am too. I needed to get a shot of cortisone and make sure I had no broken bones, I just have a sprain and some cuts and bruises.

I really hope that I can get a good replacement car with the money I get with the insurance, and a loan. I hope the used car market has, or is going down within the next month or so.

I know but I wish it was how it used to be where I'd get more than it was worth or even a new car from insurance. This also nixmy plans on getting cheaper insurance. :/

I'm still glad that it was much worse, and that everyone is fine. I still hope the guy wouldn't ever sue me or something though. I got a ticket for following too close too, which doesn't really make sense.

I had my break lines fail while driving before. A dear jumped out in front of me and I slammed on the breaks. The sudden increase in pressure broke the break lines. It was dead of winter and salt from the road corroded the lines.

So in other words, maybe your break lines failed.

I'm not sure. I was going around 35ish in a 40 and slowed down more as much as I could before my breaks stopped working. I'm guessing 20ish

I'm wondering if this is what happened too tbh

Does insurance see it as not your fault when the breaks give out like that? Just a freak accident?

I'm not sure yet. I hope that at the least I could either get more money, or out of the ticket I got if they can still find out that it was due to the breaks

Yeah, I honestly know there were some on mine, but I believe that they were either fixed before sold, or that my dad got them fixed when we used to share it though. I've still worried for a while though. Something was definitely off about the front right wheel lately, and my mom who occasionally drives it to let my brother borrow her car, also noted that it's been strange.

I've had 2 cars totaled in the past couple years.

It has oddly had upsides.

1st was a car on year 2 of my lease. Insurance payout was greater than my remaining due on the lease. This put me into position to grab a direct replacement (well, slightly higher trim) on the lot before there was a major inventory drought. To this day it's a bit uncommon to come across the car.

2nd was the car I owned. Technically it was good money paid out again, but like you, it was very sentimental. I decided to play the long game in trying to revive it as a salvage title (no frame damage made out). In the meantime I got a more economical car. Literally shopped the next day and caught an incoming dealer allocation of a car also a bit uncommon and also in demand. This was already something that was on my sights, but wrecking my car just made it readily possible. Also handy as I have to run around more often to take my uncle to dialysis now. My original car being repaired is awful for that (bad on gas, little ground clearance).
