IIRC it wasnt only the Rodney King attack that set it off.
There also a young black teen girl who went into a convenience store owned by Koreans. The Korean woman working the cashier thought the girl was trying to steal something so she grabbed the girls stuff. Then the young girl hit the woman with her backpack or something and then started walking out of the store. The Korean woman then proceeded to grab a handgun and shoot the girl in the back of the head as she was walking out of the store.

How was that woman punished you ask? She got probation. Because the white judge felt the shooter wouldnt offend again.

That entire shooting was captured on surveillance footage too.

Nah, that was part of it but there was a whole thing of pressure and race in the 90s in LA.

I mean there still is but that point was probably a lot worse than it is now.

Yes, I know. There were tensions between the groups prior to the 92 verdict. The girl that was murdered was Latasha Harlins. What I meant was that the verdict was the spark to the LA Riots.

Im just providing some extra context for anyone who doesnt know tbh. If it was just a single incident that caused outrage, it paints the riots differently. Knowing that it was a pattern of discriminatory treatment towards the black community brings to light where that anger was really coming from

With warning shots by the way. No looters were shot despite over 2000 Korean stores being destroyed or looted during the riots (And by the way, Korean businesses suffered disproportionate rates of crime prior to the riots too) . They were just trying to protect their livelihood as they got next to zero assistance from LAPD.
