And also the story and characters gripped me more. I really liked Caius, Yuel and Noel.

Caius is a top 2 FF villain. One thing I never really agreed with about the original FF13 that seems to be the conventional wisdom is that the combat system is bad. I think it's quite good. Probably one of the best of the franchise. 13 utilized it incredibly poorly and basically every non-boss encounter was the same and hugely stretched out to take forever. But the core system is pretty good. 13-2 makes some minor improvements to it and makes encounters less obnoxious so it's just a much more enjoyable experience along with the more engaging zones where you don't just walk forward in a line all the time. Plus there's actually more to do in the game than walk forward and fight battles. I think the time travel element is engaging in its own way. The whole thing is kind of silly, a bit ala FFX-2, but in a way that's easy to care about it. The pokemon thing is kind of fun to play around with. My gripes really are minor. Such as Mog is obnoxious. Snow still exists. The ending is, uh, a choice. Not sure I hate it, but it's kind of off putting. My only huge gripe is of course the DLC shenanigans, which are just bullshit. But I'd figure that in a remaster all the DLC (possibly excluding stupid cross over like Mass Effect armour) would be included in the package.

Been a couple 360 games Ive been tempted to replay hope to god all my dlc is there, I think I had the on disc version for fallout NV, but shit its been a long time.

I'm a bit torn on XIII-2. I liked the gameplay additions but the story and characters did not grip me at all. I remember giving up at a certain point, was just bored and not invested in the game. The time travel was too over the place.

XIII had its problems (was a tutorial for far too long) but it was much more memorable. Still felt like a good-great game for me despite the criticism it gets.

Maybe if I replayed them both the opinion would change. At the very least both games have incredible soundtracks.

I got them on steam earlier this year and played through them again. I've always liked 13-2 a lot. Unfortunately the game doesn't really start to fully open up on monster customization until very late when you can start to get the better abilities.

If you play them on an Xbox One/Series X it's basically remastered. XIII-2 and 3 run at 4K/60fps. And you can run them with the original discs. You still have to buy the DLC though.

The main reason 13 got sequels is they blew a bunch of money developing the White Engine used in FFXIII and needed to justify all the money put into it.

Even if you don't like them, you have to admit it's rather... odd, that they haven't done so yet. To put it into perspective, they actually bothered to do FF8 with it's missing assets, yet have done nada with 13. Part me wonders, is some part of SE actually ashamed of it because it represents their lowest point (whether you like the games or not doesn't matter in this regard). Again, it's really odd it's getting completely ignored while every other main title has gotten some modern attention by now (maybe not so much 11 since 14 exists.) I'm grasping at straws really, because it's that damn odd.

I didn't like the Pokemon shit. It was bad in ToS2 and it was bad in FF13-2.

Devs need to stop doing this shit unless the game is built from the ground up to accommodate it like Legend of Mana.

These look so bad ive never given them more than a minutes glance and then went back to ignoring them. I enjoy hating FFX cause the story is dogshit but all the 13s look so bad im not even investing time to hate it.

If they can fix the battle system where it feels like I'm actually playing the game.

As a person who actually liked 13, I didn't like 13-2 as much. Didn't even finish Lightning returns, but I do want to go back and try some day. I only made it a couple hours in.

No? That wouldn't make sense.

Also you can kind of make your characters less great than they could be if you fuck up their level ups.

I agree TC. I still have the full Trilogy on the 360, but my 360 RRoD'd again, so I tossed it in storage lol.

Was waiting for a remaster, but I caved and just bought the regular versions on Steam. 13-2 is the best overall, but I really like the endgame of 13. It was so fun dishing out crazy numbers with Fang's Highwind.

The 3rd game is called Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and plays drastically different from the first 2 games.

You get bonus stat ups on the large nodes on the Crystarium. So to min max your characters you need to level up jobs that give the specific stat up you want on the large nodes. Since each job maxes out at level 100 you can run out of levels for the right jobs to properly min max. Generally Serah leans magic and Noel leans attack. If for some reason you'd want to you can reverse their polarities through careful leveling up, or enhance those innate statistics.

It's recommended that you don't take bonus stats from jobs that give bonus HP since the amounts are too small to matter. Sentinel and medic and maybe synergist gives bonus HP. Commander gives bonus atk and ravager bonus mag, and IIRC saboteur alternates on odd and even levels.

T-Edition fixes the FFVI leveling.

I accidentally got overleveled in 13-2. I don't even think I ever started grinding at any point in the game. I just did as many side quests as I could since I like doing side quests in RPGs. I remember steamrolling the final boss in Triple COM set up. It was to the point I thought it was a joke or was gonna be another stage since I think I 1 or 2 shot him lol.

It's a much easier game than 13. I would have liked it to be more challenging, but can't have everything.

To be fair a lot of the reason it was "easier" was because it let you do a bunch of stuff that could break the game. If you, say, switched the bosses around the two games would end up roughly the same difficulty.

Personally I prefer that style as games that don't let you do anything interesting are boring, and most games that have any semblance of difficulty have it because they lock everything down.

I thought Lightning Returns was supposed to be the best of the trilogy. I played a bit on PC but don't remember much.

but it cant play 13-2. i mean it plays the cutscenes of 13-2 just fine but the actual gameplay is so slow the first fight takes 45 minutes when its only supposed to last like 3 minutes

i thought 13-2 was graphically inferior to 13 so i dont get why 13 works but 13-2 doesnt
oh well i didnt bother getting a steam refund so i can just download it again whenever i get a new laptop

The problem isn't your laptop. It's just a VERY badly optimized game. Even beast PCs for today's standards would still have trouble with it. You have to use mods to fix it. Square Enix sucks with PC ports.

I have heard that the PC port of 13-2 is notoriously awful. But I imagine there is mods that can alleviate it.
