i do wonder if the generally fairly average body types in soccer turns away some americans

so much of the discourse surrounding american football/basketball is about X or Y player being a complete genetic freak in terms of size/speed

The thing is generally this is cancelled out by being less fast and less physically aggressive. Football (soccer) is a sport full of reasonably tall and athletic as fuck dudes taking big fucking knocks out of each other. Most players are kind of around 6ft and pretty strong.

In more or less any other instance a 5ft3 player would be too short for the sport. Messi having supernatural abilities to glue the ball to his foot and see the game in slow motion just offsets that.
