Historically, would you say religion has caused more harm or good to society?

And why? My thought is that as much as I am against religion in general, I do think that it was a major contributor to human development but we are getting dangerously close to that changing in current times. --- "Context Matters" ... Copied to Clipboard!

It would be lovely to see development without religion -- it would probably be a totally different technological stream. I suspect we'd be a lot better at surgery, life extension, and healthcare all around, but not as great at Computing and stuff. ... Copied to Clipboard!

My take is that it was a required element to human culture in the beginning. I think we had to have religion to get civilization started But we stopped needing it a very long time ago. And it's way past time to drop it. It causes more harm than it is worth now ... Copied to Clipboard!

I think way more treachery or far more people killing each other without it. The tenets of Buddhism, Christianity, Shinto, Judaism, etc. instill a moral compass in individuals where there'd be a lesser one without. --- <3 <3 I love life <3 <3 ... Copied to Clipboard!

More harm by far. The Middle East is all about killing, enslaving, and repressing people over religion --- "I came back from space, and as I returned, I had one vision... the world set ablaze!" - Yuri Gagarin, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ... Copied to Clipboard!
