as somebody who is close to beating MMBN2, anybody who says 3 is worse because of the backtracking is absolutely fucking insane

having some backtracking spread out with a sneakrun navicust program is so much better than hours of this ice bullshit

The ice chapter is not great I'll give you that.

But I just had less fun with 3's "press" sections (and having to do the same area like 3 times in the bubbleman chapter), and that atrocity of a chapter where you had to go over every previous area dousing out fires.

I haven't played any of these games in years and Imma just wait for this to come out so I can nostalgia dive in style.

I don't think the ice chapter in 2 is worse than the fire chapter in 3

It's been a while since I've played 3 so I can't really speak to it specifically. I think what really bothered me about ice was how pointless so much of it was. Here's what the ending segment of it requires:

Square -> Undersquare -> Netsquare -> Netopia 2 -> Undersquare -> Netopia 2 -> Undernet 3 -> Netopia 2 -> Undernet 3 -> Netsquare -> Kotosquare

it drove me insane having to be a telephone for a dipshit navi and its sibling when half these steps could've been eliminated. Netopia to Undersquare is a hike, even if you jack out and take the Yumland shortcut

ftr, that whole portion was finding a macguffin that turned out to be entirely irrelevant too

Every chapter 7 is a desperate quest to find or stop a mcguffin by going to the Undernet, which ultimately fails because the game wants to have 8 chapters and a final dungeon in the eigth one.

My favorite one of the set is actually the one from MBN3, where you have to become King of the Undernet, or something.

I meant it failed because you just merked the guy making the ice and so you didn't need the pieces of a melting program you were collecting after all, and your actions in collecting them didn't actually get you closer to that goal whatsoever
