Hit and miss.

right In the middle. Like some of his films but think hes terrible for DC.

Useless. Black and white scenes.

I think he's fine, but way too up his own ass.

He also needs to stop adapting things. Its pretty clear he like, doesn't understand the things he adapts, since he has a pretty good record of doing like, literally the opposite of what the original thing had to say.

But if you want movies that feel like they're deep but actually aren't, Snyder's your guy.

Zack Snyder is an auteur. Unfortunately, his style is bloated and pompous. His movies are filled to the brim with simplistic platitudes and symbolism that's like being bashed to death with a skillet, and they're filled with what's supposed to be "style" but which is usually clunky and unwieldy CGI.

Zack Snyder's bread and butter is slo-mo money shots set to a blaring choir. It works for one single frame that's intended to look exactly like a comic panel, but the second one of his movies begins to move around and function as an actual movie, the whole thing falls apart. I have no idea why he was getting to make three hour movies to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, well past the point that his movies were being critically panned. The dialogue in them has always been dogshit, and a ton of the runtime is "epic" cinematography that's mostly a waste of time in service of trying to look amazing. Every ZS movie I've ever seen has ended with me thinking to myself "what a monumental fucking waste of my time."

Zack Snyder is unironically an auteur. He has a distinct style and flair to his film-making, you can put on a Zack Snyder movie totally blind and tell that it's a Zack Snyder movie. Same with Michael Bay. Unfortunately, ZS's style of film-making is tedious, shallow and unforgivably boring. I've regretted every Zack Snyder movie I've ever watched, and I don't think I'm ever going to watch one of his movies again. I wouldn't have seen any of his movies past Man of Steel if I didn't have friends who sat me down and made me watch them with them. I get that I'm taking this topic way more seriously than I maybe should, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I hate Zack Snyder's work. As a person, that's not for me to judge. As a film-maker, I just outright hate his work.

He makes the best DC movies.

I think he's alright and gets unwarranted hate.

I've only seen Watchmen and I think it's great (also a big fan of the comic). But I hear his other stuff is hit or miss.

You know how a number of people, usually in their teenage years, go through that period where they think something is only good or worthwhile when it's "dark and edgy," before eventually growing out of it? Snyder strikes me as someone whom never got out of that phase, since that tends to be his MO with his films, regardless of whether it fits the source material or not.

He's talented as a director visually. His films all LOOK great. He's capable of making good movies (I like Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen, even with the latter being a very flawed adaptation). But overall, I wouldn't call myself a fan.
