Which break from normal gameplay is your favorite?

I tried hard to fit what I could on here. Stuff like Cooking and Dating Sims got the boot.

(I'm pretty sure a JRPG Coliseum is "normal gameplay" but in a reward-based setting)

For me... I've found card games I've loved and others that are just luck of the draw. I've found puzzles that are fun/engaging and others that are either impossible, oversimplified, or lacking in variety. I've found base management games that are rewarding and others that were tedious collect-a-thons of random drops. I've found fishing that's dull and fishing that's Stardew Valley.

I think the one that I enjoy the highest percentage of the time are either puzzles or card games.

Really tough between card games, fishing and monster raising. Probably voting card games.

I like puzzles, you can make a puzzle that's pretty fun without putting in a lot of development time, and they tend to make a nice break from the action. As long as they aren't used too frequently and break up the action they're great. (I'm thinking of puzzles that are wholly separate from normal gameplay, not ones that are woven into typical action-adventure gameplay or whatever.)

I don't really understand the obsession with fishing minigames in games, I find fishing minigames to be a chore across every game that they're in. It's been a trend to put fishing minigames in games as part of some sort of meme and I don't get it.

tbh I want fishing in something like Stardew Valley, and I want it done like Stardew does it; it's simple, yet engaging. I also want fishing in a survivalist type of game where catching food is an active part of gameplay, and I want it to have realistic, yet engaging mechanics... while not keeping the "realism" of not catching anything for an hour.

I don't understand the need for fishing games in so many JRPGs and games like Zelda, when many of those are boring or too simple, and don't offer a productive reward.

Rhythm games are probably my least favorite option here - I can't really think of a game that has a rhythm side game that's actually fun and feels polished

I chose battle arena because I don't consistently like any of the options on the poll.

How to tell me you've never played a Yakuza game without saying you've never played a Yakuza game.

yakuza karaoke is good because it's charming but the actual play of it is pretty generic and unpolished

I mean, with rhythm games I get it - they can't be so hard that they drive away non-rhythm game players, but that means it's gonna be a tedious grind for anyone who does play them

You missed shmup. It's been a go-to for ages. Quiz show isn't as common but I like the idea.
