I wouldnt mind getting into PC gaming but I dont know how to build a computer nor do I have the knowledge to know what parts are good on a budget. Consoles take the thinking out of it for people like me. I could learn I guess, but Im lazy.

Can you set them up so you can play games on TV but do normal stuff at your desk without having to carry your tower around?

4K gaming is a meme at this point. There's no hardware that can adequately perform like people expect it to. 4K 60hz is the best one can expect at this point, and that's with some of the best hardware and DLSS/FSR/XESS enabled. I have a Ryzen 5800x and a 3070 Ti, and I game at 1440p because that's where the sweet spot is for price to performance. This is Cyberpunk 2077 with FSR enabled to max quality. I usually play on balanced.

https://imgur.com/z1NivHn

DLSS enabled this time:

https://imgur.com/JSUOnNp

Oh, and people keep forgetting that a decent 4K TV is a part of the setup in the same way monitors are to a PC, and those can be very expensive. You're getting a mediocre 4K experience for $450.

I get pretty much the same benchmarks since I have a 165 W 3080 variant, but there certainly are games I can play at 4K without any difficulty. The desktop 3080 and 3090 can play pretty much everything at 4k, though.

Oh. I had ray tracing enabled as well, which I almost always leave turned off because of the performance hit. I turned that off and saw a 24% improvement in FPS.

But just move it

Not everyone has room to completely rearrange like that either.
But that's your own personal problem. That isn't a problem with PC gaming.

This is the only benchmark I have saved on my computer, with RT off. Although knocking down DLSS a tier will allow RT at 60fps so not bad for a laptop.

Why compare the cost of just 2 PC parts to a complete system/console? For me, I would choose a $500 console over a cheap budget PC.

If you have the money to build a mid to high-end PC, that would be preferable though.

That is too expensive an entry price. If consoles could charge a $750 gate they would. They can't. People won't pay that.

Consoles still have to worry about hardware failure

PC part failure is exceedingly rare and not having to care about generations at all is one of its biggest advantages and why they are so much cheaper to keep running.

My PC failure rate is 100% while my console failure rate is 0% (at worst, a proprietary peripheral failed and I never bothered to replace it). Console failure is mainly a thing for early adopters, while PC failure is simply a matter of time unless you bought some really premium shit.

I get that most people are too stupid/lazy/poor to put together a reliable PC and spend 5 minutes fucking with graphics settings but to call people dumb because they enjoy it is very telling.

However with retro arch being available on Xbox and Nvidias prices being ridiculous on the 4000 series I just might stick to consoles this gen

Easy mode? Look for a refurbished Dell optiplex. Ideally an i7 with 4 cores and 8 threads. Upgrade to 16 GB of ram, install a SATA SSD, and a low profile 4 GB card. A SFF optiplex would fit into most entertainment centers and this was something I used for a few years in my living room.

You'd be looking at around $400 or so total, maybe less with deal hunting and its a lot easier than building a PC from scratch or getting an over priced prebuild.

It depends on how far the desk is. In my gameroom, I have my desktop PC connected to 3 monitors plus a very long HDMI cable running to my Samsung TV. You could also stream to the TV wirelessly, but then you introduce some latency.

I find that unless the game has been out for a long time, I can actually find console games cheaper (during sales) than PC nowadays. Steam sales are not as good as they used to be. I usually use slickdeals, cheapassgamer, and gg.deals to find the best prices.

Yes, if your desk and TV are in the same room, you absolutely can set it up that way. If you have both the monitor and TV turned on, the PC will use both screens at the same time. But you can just turn off the screen you don't want to use at that moment (or change the display settings). Then switch accordingly. No need to move the tower around.

I have my desk in the corner with a 27 inch monitor. But I mainly use my 55 inch TV for everything, since it can do 4k/120 fps. Wireless keyboard and mouse and an Xbox One Controller make it easy to game, or work, off of the TV.

They used to. I remember having to pay for Xbox Live to play FFXI, which required it's own subscription. That hasn't been a thing since the PS4/Xbox One console generation though. I know for sure that you could play both free to play and subscription based MMO's on PS4 without needing PS Plus. Although some people still thought that it was required.

altho regarding cables and some other misc stuff:

PSU comes with most of the necessary cables (like 99% of what you need really idr the 1% tho)

some cpus come with the cpu fan (usually the lower-end cpus iirc). still wise to get a separate cpu fan. idr if my cpu came with its own fan.

motherboards come with the sata cables for ssd/hdd and prob something else idr too well

cases come with their own fans like 2 or 3 but i guess it wise to buy more case fans
