Is he?

Is being in or based on a comic book a prerequisite to being a supervillain?

He isn't a comic book villain.

Even though there are Star Wars comics, Star Wars characters did not originate as a comic.

It's like saying Sonic is a comic book super hero. He is a video game character.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

If I took this one way, I could say that yes, the Star Wars comic books that Marvel has made are based on the Star Wars movies.

Alternatively, I could read this as "aren't Marvel (super hero) comic books based on the movies (MCU)?" and the answer to that is generally no

I looked it up and you're right. Iron Man first appeared in comics before RDJ was born.

If being the over-arching nemesis of a nine film series, literally the big baddie of a trilogy of trilogies, doesn't make you a supervillain, what does?

That's because it's Robert Downey *JR*, that iron Man was based on Robert Downey.

palpatine doesn't show up until empire strikes back
he's the big bad, but that doesn't make you the story's supervillain.

i see where you're coming from, but in this case Darth Vader and Kylo Ren are the primary antagonist and would be considered your main "supervillain" of the story

but again, palpatine IS a supervillain... i'm just disagreeing with the notion that he's the MAIN one whom the conflict centers around
