Why is it changing to Like A Dragon? Is that the original name in Japan

Grand Theft Auto, IMO.

I've played each of the official Yakuzas, with the exception of Y6 and the Kiwamis (I did finish the original Y & Y2, though), and outside of the first two games, I haven't been a fan.

too much melodrama and contrivances.

I like some of what the games have to offer, though, like side-missions and a bunch of buildings you can enter, giving it a more condensed but less bloated open-world than a lot of other games have.

Y2 > Y > LaD > Y0 > Y3 > Y4 > Y5, IMO, but everything is pretty meh after the first game.

I like both and tbh I don't know why you would even compare them as they are not similar at all. It's like asking which is better Final Fantasy or Call of Duty

Voted gta but I think yakuza games are more fun to play.

Women in Yakuza and dogs in JoJo get the same treatment.

In the last decade or so its Yakuza by far. They have actually released new games and made good remasters of old games, whereas GTA has just rehashed GTAV and made terrible remasters of old games

You cant switch them until the very end of the game. You always do 2 chapters per character

It's a 2nd area of the city, right? thanks for the response. The chapter 3 cutscene was super long, saved and turned it off for now

Each character stays in their own city until the very end. Once you can switch characters then you can go to either city with both of them

I like more Yakuza games than I do Grand Theft Auto games

Man it's tough. I love the PS2 trilogy of GTA. They have great music and fun stories. But 4 and 5 arent as good. Meanwhile Yakuza has been consistently good but I still have a nostalgic soft spot for GTA

Depends if Yakuza has replay value or not. I've kept my distance from it. One time someone gifted me it on Steam and I said I'd accept the gift when I was ready to play it and then after a while it auto-refunded. It made me wonder if I was a strange person.

I really don't enjoy GTA so this should be easy for Yakuza, but Yakuza comes off like a generic cinematic one-and-done that gets a pass for being quirky.

As much as I played and replayed the GTA trilogy back when they came out (and IV almost as much), I still put Yakuza way above it.

Pocket Circuit Racing
Dancing
Karaoke
Shogi
Mahjong
Ocean Fishing
Pool
Darts
Various asian gambling games (Cee-lo, Hanafuda, etc.)
Real Estate management

Majima has:
Weapon crafting
Dancing
Karaoke (different songs)
Shogi
Mahjong
River fishing
Pool
Darts
Various casino gambling games (blackjack, baccarat, etc.)
Cabaret Club Management

Tough call. Both are awful. Not sure which is worse, though.

I enjoyed Yakuza 0 but it did NOT make me want to play any more games in the series. I'd had enough.

I consider the business stuff less minigame and more "side story with unique mechanics".

But anyway Neon, don't forget all the retro SEGA games and the JCC.

Overall? I prefer Yakuza these but GTA regularly revolutionizes gaming and are generally some of the best reviewed games of all time. It's definitely the better series

I watched a guy evolve from a Shenmue fan into a Yakuza fan.
He became absolutely entranced by this thing overnight but all that seems to be going on from an outsider's point of view is that he buys a bunch of games, is pulled through a cutscene heavy story with occasional combat that becomes a non-factor if you grind to buy healing/supercharge items, watches a bunch of side stories that don't seem to change much on replay and then occasionally makes himself wade through some tedious sounding side games.

For the sake of trying to hold up my end of a conversation when he gets really excited about one, I watched someone YT. I watched full playthroughs of 7, 0, K1 and K2. I don't feel like I've missed anything by watching them instead of buying them.

Are the Yakuza 0 substories available across chapters or temporary, timed ?

I just ran past one to finish chapter 3 ._.

Available across chapters.

There are some points where the story takes over and can't do side stuff, but most often the game gives you a lot of freedom.

I think some might be time of day dependent, but you can change the time of day at will at the end of the game.
